New Look Daleks Revealed

^ Yeah, really. I don't know what all the fuss is about, these Daleks look just as ridiculous as the old ones did. Doctor Who's reputation is safe in that respect.

Come on, they're robotic pepper-shakers of death from outer space and the future! Like a few coats of testor's paint is going to make them any more absurd if you think about the design from more than 5 seconds. What sells them is the Doctor and his rabid fear of them, not how they look.

I don't think it is the paint as much as the decrease in surface detail and overall form alterations that are eliciting the negative response.

Even before seeing the episode, the new design is already growing on me. It has much more of a futuristic "scifi" look to it, unlike the previous one which was starting to look a little TOO bulky and retro.

It feels like it was probably the right time to finally update the design.

After looking at them the first time, i thought like many that they were an election stunt in the mag. but after knowing that they are actual props and are in episdoes is fab. They look a lot cooler now as, well, 'actual' Daleks.

Again like weve mentioned before, like the Tardis interior, they have a 50s b-movie feel. And its cool.

I still like the way in 'Dalek' that they turned it into a literal war machine, with the rotating turett type middle to cover all areas, it was a fab addition to a design that just went forward, back or round in circles. Obviously, they went upstairs in McCoys era but thats beside the point.

Wonder if they have the same features though, or are just space dustbins again.

Actually, i cant remember if we saw the NuWho Daleks using the centre like that after 'Dalek' did we.

I think Parting Of The Ways is the last time they do it, with some of the squad leader Daleks watching their forces coming out of of the saucers to fly across to the Game Station.

They look more modern
they have a 50s b-movie feel.
So are they modern or retro?

They certainly don't look any more modern than this guy:

I don't really mind the design though. At least they didn't go with the shitty spider-legs design idea.

I think its just coz they look a bit more bulky and clean looking with more broad lines and a very smooth characiture-ish design, where as the 2005 Daleks were the same as the classic but with a lot more tweeking and surface detailing making them a lot more modern.

They do indeed have that 'retro-modern' look to them that is so popular with the car designers of the last decade. I think that is what is turning me off. In my mind a Dalek shouldn't look like it is following modern human design sensibilities. I also think it is kind of ugly and over-simplified which creates the 'looks like a toy' reaction.

I don't really like it, but I fully admit that is just a personal opinion and will still be able to enjoy the show when they show up.

I'm pretty sure they have, but they didn't ever call attention to it. And, obviously, it was only in shots with CGI Daleks.

I know the black Dalek in the 11th Doctor 3D teaser rotated his midsection.
