Ultimate Spider-Man will chronicle Peter Parker's evolution from a naïve teen hotshot to a true hero who comes to terms with his origins and abilities. “Ultimate Spider-Man will be a unique journey exploring our favorite web-slinger as he teams up with other fan favorite Marvel Super Heroes in never before seen stories with a new life filled with great challenges, new friends, intense action and character growth," said Eric S. Rollman, the president of Marvel Animation.

Wish they would have continued "Spectacular" that went before it's time

I wonder how much it will follow the comic version. I loved Kitty Pryde appearing in it.

It's getting hard to be interested in superhero cartoons when they reboot every few years. I mean, I barely remember THE BATMAN was even made at this point.

Sigh, weren't they doing this already with Spectacular? This just smacks of the new owner Disney simply wanting a new incarnation for it's XD channel, and not wanting a 'cast off' developed for another outlet.

I'm holding out a faint hope that this will turn out to be a renamed, reformatted continuation of Spectacular from the same creators. It doesn't sound like it, but we can't conclusively rule it out yet.

Same reason why it's hard for me to be interested in comic books anymore.

The last cartoon I got hooked on was Timm's Justice League.

Pah. Spectacular Spider-Man was my favourite cartoon in years and I'm not even a big fan of the character. Now they seem to be going for a Marvel equivalent of The Brave and the Bold instead, to which I think I'll pass.

I dunno, a Marvel Team-Up show anchored by Spidey might be fun. One of the cool things about the Marvel Universe has always been its heavy use of crossovers; it's even become a trademark of the modern Marvel movies. And there's precedent; there were frequent crossovers by other Marvel heroes in the animated Spidey shows of the '80s and '90s. If anything, the Marvel cartoons that have lacked crossovers by other heroes have seemed to be missing something.

Well that's really unfortunately that Spec is going away, but at least we're getting SOME kind of animated Spidey. And a team-up up of the week format could be fun.

Yeah, but will it be any good? In the past two decades we've had two good animated Spidey series and two weak ones. I don't want this to be another case like Spider-Man Unlimited, where a good Spidey show is immediately followed up with a weak one.

And if it is primarily a team-up show, how will they make it fresh and not feel like a Brave and the Bold knockoff?

I loved Spectacular Spider-Man precisely because it included or was inspired by elements of Ultimate Spider-Man so I'm pretty excited about this announcement even though I too would have liked Spectacular to continue. It will be interesting to see who the creative team on this is...if not Bendis himself in some capacity.

Bendis already tweeted that he's not really involved, as he's focussed on adaptations of Powers and one of his other creator-owned works.

Well, for starters, it's evidently not going to be retro-Silver Age.

Which is kind of my point. The retro flavor of TB&TB is part of what makes it special. If this show used the same teamup format but didn't have something of its own to make it special and unique, then it would risk feeling like an inadequate imitation.

It might be premature to assume that the title actually indicates what it will be based on. After all, the Spider-Man Unlimited animated series wasn't based on the comic book of the same name, but owed more to Spider-Man 2099, I believe. And The Spectacular Spider-Man is based a lot more on Lee/Ditko Amazing Spider-Man storylines than on any comic bearing the Spectacular name.
