He-Man movie still in the works

I have the power!

I can remember the previous attempt at making a He-Man movie being discussed here a few years ago. According to this new article, the previous attempt fell apart after Warner Bros. and Mattel had a creative disagreement. Now a new script is being written for Sony Pictures.

Somebody just make it already! And make it awesome!

I would really love a serious attempt at the He-Man universe on the big screen. It could be so epic if treated properly.

Talk of this film the last few years has been about balancing the fantasy elements while keeping it from appearing silly.
Similar talk about Thor went on, if the Thor movie does it right and scores big I say look for quick movement on the He-Man project then.

I still love the '87 film and somehow I doubt a current adaptation would even try to stay as faithful to the source material that it did. Just look at G.I.Joe, Street Fighter, and Transformers 2...

I think a live action He-Man origin story would be incredible to see in the theater, and there is so much stuff in the universe that several sequels could work.

does anybody have a link to the "Greyskull" script, it supposed to be real good (no doubt why they didn't make it into a film)?

I wish I did, but I never got to read it.

I think it was written by the same guy who was working on the Green Arrow undercover Prision Break movie "Super-Max" Justin Marks (I think it was)

I'm very excited about this as I read it this morning...Predators seems like its going to be good this is the third attempt at making this film and second studio. As far as I know John Stephenson "Kung-Fu Panda" is still attached to direct this so hopefully as the old saying goes...the third time is the charm!

There is only one relevant queston here:

Who would play Teela?

That's another script I'd love to read, since I think its another film we'll never see.

Nothing can beat the awesome cheese of Dolph Lundgren as He-Man! Mark my words!

He-Man movies are always "still in the works". I'll believe one has been made when I'm in the cinema watching it.

I bought the action figures as a child and the little story booklets bore little resemblance to the cheesy cartoon that came out later. The 80s movie was a children's movie and didn't try to be anything else. I always felt that the mistakes they made were to make Skeletor victorious in the opening scene (where can you go for a sequel if he's already conquered Greyskull?) and moving the action straight to Earth (obviously to save money).

In fact, the more recent cartoon adaptation did a much better job of fleshing out the characters, particularly Evil Lynn, and making Skeletor the servant of Hordak gave them somewhere to go (although in fact they never went there because a third series was never made).

If they pad out the legendary history of Eternia, make movie 1 Skeletor vs He-man thwarting an attempt to take Greyskull, Movie 2, Skeletor & He-man v King Hiss liberating Snake Mountain, and Movie 3, He-man v Skeletor and the Horde, they have a reasonable franchise.

Actually I never considered Christina Hendricks a possible candidate for Teela but she works...for a long time I've had Amy Adams as a pick for Teela.

You think the 87 film was "faithful to the source material"? It was a fucking abomination, even when I was 10-11!

This sums up my thoughts well, it was a piece of crap.

Of course, they have to make Teela in the movie exactly the way she was in the show.. that sh was the Captain of the Guards and a real show-off, but couldn't actually fight her way out of a paper bag when a bad guy showed up!
