Will Matt Smith wear different clothes?

Mr. Sin

Commander
Fans, it seems are constantly wary of the Doctor's outfit being a sort of 'uniform' like in the JNT era. Granted, the JNT outfits weren't the best either, with the question marks and of course, that coat.

I think we're at least going to see some variation in the bow tie, kind of like Eccleston changed his shirt some times. Tennant of course had many variants of his basic costumes and of course the formal wear and spacesuits he often wore.

I imagine they will vary the "look" somewhat. It's relatively easy to do, changing the bowtie is the best way but maybe the shirt and even the jacket. I've seen one interview where Smith was banging on about wanting an overcoat for next year (in part because location filming can be bloody freezing!)

^^^ On that note, Smith has talked about the possibility of changing is outfit, obviously, the bow tie in two different colours. But hes also hinted that he wants the Doctor to change here and there, like Tennant and Eccleston did where they changed lightly. In Tennants case, a whole new suit/converse/open collar ensamble.

Having said that, does anyone remember the location shoot photos from a while back, where Smith was snapped with a large black coat on, its either his extremely quirky style or a varient for a cold planet.

It wasnt the big jackets to keep them warm during takes, but it was a funky quirky jacket with a large collar and big buttons. Anyone remember it?

After getting soaked in space whale puke I would certainly hope he at least washes the clothes! Heck after stealing them from the hospital he should have washed them, who knows who wore them last. LOL

On Jonathan Ross he mentioned his look will evolve over time. Tennant didn't wear the exact same outfit all the time either.

That said, the Doctor has always had a "uniform" of some sort that has been as much a part of the branding as anything else. Eccleston had the leather jacket, Tom Baker had the floppy hat and the scarf, Davison had the cricket outfit, Colin Baker had ...er, we'll leave it at that. I think the only Doctor not to be identified with a single outfit of some kind is Pertwee.

So I don't really expect to see Smith change too much (except maybe if an episode warrants it - like those episodes in which Tennant wore a tuxedo). If he does make a change, hopefully it'll be tied in with character evolution, like how McCoy's outfit turned dark when the Seventh Doctor turned dark.

Well I guess that explains why we see him wearing the blue bow tie and shirt next week. The others were in the wash. lol

Having the Doctor wearing a "uniform", i.e. same/similar clothes never bothered me too much. After all, from what we've seen of other Time Lords (in both the classic and new series), they all seem to wear same/similar clothes all the time (albeit in ostentatious Gallifreyan styles), so it wouldn't surprise me if the Doctor did the same when he switched to human clothes, out of habit. I know some people who went to schools that required uniforms and, years after they graduated, all their clothes were still vaguely derivative of their school uniform.

Yeah, i thought that in the trailer.

Although, a hint to the colour change in shirt/tie is visible on the Crash Set toys, where they randomised the colours of the shirts and ties to a tardis blue and red.

Looks cool. :techman:
