Law & Order: I've lost track...

Six months I moved to a new town and a new job. And during this time I've lost complete track of whatever I was watching on TV. Mad Men I lost track of because where I live AMC isn't available on the cable service.

But I also lost track of Law & Order And Law & Order: SVU. I've hardly watched any television except the occasional hockey game including the Olympics.

I've no idea what's happening with characters.

Can anyone help out?

Yeah it can be fun. They must of just started the new eps of L&O prime because CTV in Canada showed a new ep.

Biggest give away it was new ep? No facial here for Lupo and Bernard (and a comment from Van Buren about it making them looking younger).

I like the new team on Law & Order I think its time for new blood on SVU. Besides reminding her staff of NYPD grooming standards for homicide detectives the LT is fighting cancer.

L&O has been really good this season from what I have watched. There is a cancer storyline that is being handled perfectly.

I've only been watching sporadically myself thanks to my crazy-ass work schedule.

One thing worth mentioning: S. Epatha Merkerson has announced that she'll be leaving Law & Order at the end of the current season (the show's 20th, her 17th). Kind of makes one wonder if perhaps Van Buren will succumb to the cancer that she's been fighting... or maybe she'll retire or get promoted, you never know.

Don't feel to bad. I haven't seen a new episode of Law & Order since Annie Parisse was part of the cast.

However, I completely gave up on SVU years ago. I got real tired of it being the exact same story week after week....
1.) Sex crime is committed.
2.) Cops get so involved in the case that it sucks away at their souls.
3.) Cops become so obsessed with solving the case that nothing else matters to them.
4.) Innocent people get railroaded, steamrolled, and have their constitutional rights massively violated by the cops, all in the pursuit of "justice."
5.) Another sex crime is committed by the same perp.
6.) Cops realize they just destroyed an innocent person's life.
7.) Cragen sweeps the "mistake" under the rug.
8.) Cops again become so obsessed with solving the case that nothing else matters to them.
9.) Stabler beats the ever living hell out of the perp.
10.) Cragen sweeps that under the rug.
11.) Case closed.
12.) Cops await the next episode, completely ignoring the fact they just destroyed innocent people's lives.

I think it's only her 16th season.

Considering the show was supposed to end this year anyways I'm not worried about it. I really do like her and hope she just retires and not just dies.

I never watched The Shield, as SVU pretty much turned me off to all police procedurals. However, I wouldn't doubt that what you say is true.

I'm not a big fan of any of the current flock of police procedurals (L&O & spinoffs, CSI & spinoffs, etc), unless you count the 'original' NCIS, which I love.

However, out of all the L&O/CSI shows, SVU is the one I watch most often - mainly because of all the stuff you listed above.

I mean, I never ONCE thought for a moment that any of these shows were in the least bit representative of reality. I mean, in the CSI shows, you have the CSIs running around capturing criminals, interrogating suspects, getting in massive shoot-outs, getting targeted by hit men, chasing international terrorists and drug deals to other countries.... I mean, these are supposed to be the techie nerds - not some sort of special forces unit, 'fer cryin out loud.

So the fact that Benson gets obsessed and Stabler routinely beats the crap out of suspects is almost mild, by comparison. Plus, for some reason, I find these two the most entertaining to watch, out of all the current non-NCIS cop duos. I have always thought the two of them (the actors) had incredible chemistry and were very good at their craft. IMO, the two best actors/characters on any of these shows since Lennie Brisco. It will be interesting to see how they finally end SVU. Personally, I think it would be awesome to see Stabler finally come completely unhinged...but I guess we'll see. Someday. Maybe.

Realistic? No. But then, none of these shows are realistic anymore.

Well, now keep in mind I have by no means seen anywhere close to all the episodes of SVU (I've seen maybe about 1/4 of them???), but IIRC, Stabler has been suspended and/or called out for his actions...and Benson has been sent to counseling, etc for that whole rape thing. Maybe not as much as you'd like...but I know that I have seen some consequences during my limited viewing.

Now, I have seen every episode of NCIS, and I like it. But really, it's about the characters on that show...and no one can beat the cast chemistry there. Not sure why you are thinking it is blah...but I'm not seeing any differences recently - especially in terms of the things I have always loved about the show.

The thing with SVU is that is always tries to shock you in the last ten minutes. Like the killer gets shot at leaving their squad room or escapes or some random shit meant to ramp up the action.

You're right on the money with a couple of those.

Another one that always turns up:

13.) The perp who is sitting with his or her lawyer in the interrogation room, is given a choice by the ADA. If the perp doesn't say anything he or she may have a chance in court, however, the perp decides to talk (i.e. "spill the beans") against his or her lawyer's wishes.

This is one of my favorite shows. I always watch Law And Order (SVU, & CI) there are some great episodes on now.

This is what goes on in real life, too; so much so that people are beginning to distrust the police. Such distrust would be more widespread, except for these police procedurals on TV and in the movies that take the sting of what cops do away.

I used to watch the original right after college, when it was airing endlessly on TNT. Recently I've been TiVOing SVU and enjoying it. Sure, it's the same thing over and over, but I do like Benson and Stabler.
