Absolutely loved it; Matt Smith was great; though I always had this feeling he would be. Not too sure about the Tardis interior, especially the central column.

On a different note, I have fallen in love with Amy Pond; damn.

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

Absolutely bloody fantastic. What a bold and brilliant start to the new era.

I can't believe it. Matt Smith had a real uphill struggle on his hands filling Tennant's shoes, but he hit it out of the fuck-mothering park his first time out of the gate.

Nitpicks: Jarring "CSI Who" sequence - was technically quite an impressive shot but... please don't do that again. Also - "The darkness is coming ahem Silence I meant silence"

Aye.

(Not complaining that there's an arc, or claiming to know what it'll entail - purely nitpicking the clumsy foreshadowing device. Of all the things to retain from RTD's splendid era, that was not one of them).

But aside from that, absolutely brilliant, beautiful and I can't wait for more. Also love the new intro - suck it.

Have to say though - as irksome as it is to have some bloated, self important prick telling people what to think on the internet - I'm reading a lot of "BUT BUT BUT DAVID WAS THE DEFINATIVE DOCTOR" comments here and elsewhere and frankly it's retarded. People were coming out with the same bullshit when Eccleston left. No doubt this goes right back to Troughton's debut. Change is written into the DNA of the show, and it is much, much bigger than the lead actor. So, y'know, suck it up.

Well, as I said elsewhere, not sold on the new theme. I really hope it grows on me but it's not a huge issue... I guess.

The rest I loved, I can't wait until next week to see where we go from here. I think Matt is going to be an excellent Doctor. I love Amy and the back story she has with the Doctor.

I really enjoyed the Doctor getting the tardis landings wrong and jumping years.

I really want to watch it again and digest some more.

yes I didnt really like it when it aired as part of the episode, but when I saw "the making of..." on Confidential, I appreciated it more.

Still I agree, I hope its not something we see alot of.

moving on to the end trailer, a bit to many spoilers for my taste, certianly the case with that one River Song shot.

You can't have her. She's MINE. My precioussssss.

BTW, I also hate the new theme tune. Ick.

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

The new intro to the theme overpowers the 'dun dun dun' bit, which sucks. The rest would be quite good if they turned down the strings and got rid of that choral shit.

I didn't quite like the new music opening.

Matt Smith is awesome, and I'm not afraid to say he's going to be better than David Tennant (which I loved in the role, don't get me wrong). Still, don't forget that as the Doctor just went through a regeneration, his personality is still unstable, so don't be surprised if you see a bit of Tenth in Eleventh ;)

I also enjoyed Amy Pond and her chemistry with the Doctor. I'm pretty sure she's going to be the best companion since the series revival, I really like her.

I also liked the wedding dress on the last shot :D I'm surprised no one mentioned it.

The TARDIS has a steampunk theme? Good, I like it but I'm not sure about the typewriter

The story wasn't all that great but I'm happy with the new style and characters. Keep them coming! :techman:

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

The food scene was like 5 minutes of literal nonsense. Maybe the script was too short and it needed padding.

I liked that Amy wasn't a Police Woman but in the story it would've made sense, given that a Police Box turned up when she was young. Still, in a show about monsters and time-traveling, a Police Woman that hot would've been the least believable aspect.

I love the TARDIS exterior but not the interior - I just can't get excited about anything steampunk. I was hoping for something more retro sci-fi from the 60s/70s with blinking lights and monitors and more classic colour schemes (ie. white), kinda like Trek IX's bridge. Which I hated. Go figure.

Nice nods to the older Doctors ruined by a 'hero' shot of Smith that was about as subtle as a brick of shit in the mouth.

I quite liked the actual story of an escaped prisoner from another universe - not every bad guy on Earth should be trying to take over - and using a little village was a nice change.

The chemistry between Matt and Karen was pretty good. I do hope she doesn't end up fancying him though.

Literal nonsense, sounds like you have been watching Doctor Who . I think Amy will find him attractive but in a mroe adult way so yeh I would hit that but at the same time I don't really care about it that much so no puppy eye shit.

yes im sure the episode HAD to be 65 minutes, no way it could have been 60 minutes?

Bloody fantastic! Smith owns the role from the off, the guy is even better than I'd hoped he'd be! Amy is gorgeous, and little Ameila was adorable. I thought the plot was good, and the 1 hour length didn't feel too long (hell I wanted more!) Moffat at his best scriptwise, from the Doctor's observation that given how laid back Amelia was about him then the crack in her wall must be REALLY scary! So many quotable lines.

"You're scarier than my aunt" "I'm scarier than everyone's aunt."

'Jeff, get a girlfriend. " "Jeff wipe your internet history first"

Anyway, just wonderful, best series opener so far.

What the fuck have they done to the title music though?:wtf:

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

I quite liked the food scene. It was funny!

Really not sure about the TARDIS interior, but frankly if that and the theme are all I find to be pissed off at in this season that'd be brilliant!

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

Too long, messy and overly contrived. But kinda brilliant too.

The story was rot (as with most New Who, the less you look at it the better), but the dialogue, the chemistry and the sense of adventure was all rather wonderful. The banter between The Doctor and Amy was lovely and frankly Smith owned the role within the first few minutes.

All I hope for is that 11 settles down a touch, mellows out and dusts off the remainder of 10 which is in the performance (hopefully just a little post-regeneration spill over). I like that he's scatterbrained and erratic, I just don't need to see any more runningrunningrunning.... Otherwise I'm all a wibble about how much fun this season looks.

Hugo - All of time and space. Everywhere and anywhere... where do you want to start?

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

Right. First off, the theme. Drop that horn section in the first eight bars and I can live with it. Okay?

Matt Smith. Bloody good.
Karen Gillan. Hm. I think she will be good. Bit rough in places here.

We have an arc. The Prisoner Zero story really was the B story, the A story was all Doctor and Amy. And we're missing bits yet - Myth laptop, who Amy's marrying, the Crack (needs a cap!).

How come the TARDIS is so rubbish at landing back at the same time?!

Patrick Moore: "Who's your lady friend?"

Slight continuity error. When showing past villains that Doctor saves the Earth from, it shows the... (quick look up) Hath from 'The Doctor's Daughter', they've never attacked Earth. But Sea Devils! Woohoo!

As expected from a Moff script, some very funny lines. I think the whole food stuff at the start was to establish a real bond with Amy that would last twelve years.

Really liked the way they had the twin-form man and dog turn their heads in exactly the same directions at the same time. Probably CGI, but still damned effective.

Whoever said "Moffat's damned hetero agenda" upthread? Okay, that was funny.

"Aren't you going to turn your back?" "Nope". That Amy needs a spanking! :D

Overall, I really liked it. It had a different feel, a different energy, and was pretty sparky. I would prefer it to settle down a bit from here, and the teaser indicates it probably will, but that manic energy was fine to start with, much like Ten in 'Xmas Invasion'. And I too could see little bits of other Docs all the way through, which is no bad thing, as long as he becomes his own man, which I'm certain he will.

Roll on next ep!

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

I don't know how I feel about yet another companion with the hots for The Doctor, I thought got rid of that shit with Donna, but all in all a great start to another 13 episodes.

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

I feel bad for saying this, but overall, I'm underwhelmed so far. Maybe the awful title sequence and theme music just threw me. Somehow, the episode's hectic pace didn't sit well with me, especially given how little substance the plot actually had. I never felt that anyone was actually in danger. I don't know, other series openers didn't have too elaborate stories, either, but somehow, the threat felt more real.
I liked the beginning of the episode until Amy sees Prisoner 0 (the scene in the room and the 'in the corner of your eyes' thing was also sufficiently scary). After that, the episode kind of lost its steam and coherence. Loved the sequence with the Doctors.

I'm not sure whether this blatantly ripping off from 'The Time Traveller's Wife' is a good thing or a bad thing. I'm pretty sure they won't be back in time for Amy's wedding, though.

And yet another prophecy? Ugh. It doesn't even make sense. Why and how would a prisoner know this?

The Food scene seemed to echo the 4th Doctor's "finding a costume" scene.

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

Just brilliant, filling DT shoes was always going to be hard but Smith pulled it off.

"Your Scottish, fry something" ROFL

Oh and love the Tardis.

Dr who looks to be in safe hands.
