Any under 30 TOS fans?

Are there any under 30 TOS fans around here? And do they like TOS for more than because they think it's cheesy and/or campy?

And are there any for which TOS is their favourite Trek?

If so then please speak up and tell us why.

I'm 27, and I don't find TOS campy or cheesy. (There are some exceptions in seasons 2 and 3, but I don't think anyone can disagree with that...)

TOS is the only series I've bought on season discs, and I find myself not really interested to rewatch any of the newer series, except Deep Space Nine.

Actually. The Acting, The Tricorders, Bone's Quotes, Spock. The Old time animated opening, The Phasers. The Enterprise. It's just so cool to me.

Reminds me of when I was 11-14 and fell in love with TOS.

Let's see, when was that? Ahh, I think sabretooth cats were still roaming around...

I like TOS, but it's not my absolute favorite. I like it because it's the first, the beginning and because I love the characters, especially Bones. I find that he - and the others are often a lot easier to identify with than those from other Treks, probably because of the simplicity of the plot and the acting. I really enjoy DS9 because the characters' complexity makes them human, but at the same time the simplicity and 'honesty', if you will, of the characters in TOS makes them come alive in a different way, which I also enjoy.
I'm 18. Bones and Spock are tied for my favorite TOS characters, with Kirk and Scotty tied for second.

My daughter is 12. She emailed the picture below to me yesterday. It may not be technically accurate, but it says all that I need to about her in this thread:

My 17 year old son is a long time casual fan with an emphasis on TNG, mostly expressed these days in firing up Armada or Armada II and playing for a while.

I am (just barely) under 30 and TOS is my favorite Trek. I have an affinity for a lot of things from the 60s, though, so I think it's just my personality. I'm attracted to bright colors, shiny objects, and pointed ears. :rommie:

25 year old TOS fan right here. While I don't regard it as the best (DS9 gets that honor), it's definitely over TNG, Voyager, Enterprise and NuTrek.

For all it's campiness and hokey attributes, the one thing I can always rely upon is that some of the stories are timeless and the idea of Star Trek is just a big sand box of potential. And when they go all out with that potential, it can be regarded as some of the best story telling in any medium.

I'm in the mid 20s and fairly new to "Star Trek". I watched TNG constantly as a child and teen but always avoided the original series because it seemed too cheesy to me. I finally gave it a serious try in 2008 and have been really into it since. I still haven't seen all the episodes and there are a ton of episodes I can't stand because I find them too lame and/or boring (most of season 3 and a big chunk of season 2), but I find the best episodes just as satisfying as a favourite TNG or DS9 episode.

"Balance of Terror" and "The City on the Edge of Forever" were probably the most important episodes for me - they were the ones that proved to me most convincingly that "Star Trek" could tell emotionally powerful stories and had much more to offer than just camp entertainment. "The Trouble with Tribbles" showed me how it could be more satisfying as pure entertainment than any of the other Star Treks I'd seen.

(Un)fortunately, I no longer fall into the "under 30" category.

What can I say? It happens to all of us... hopefully. ;)

I initially fell in love with the cool starships, the exotic aliens, the costumes, the adventure and the adult played straight feel. Then as I aged and matured and understood more I began to appreciate the multi-layering and so many other things that other sci-fi just didn't have.

23 and lately I've been waffling over my favourite series. It was DS9 for quite a while, but these days TOS is edging it out. When it was good, it was just great.

I can't tell you how much I am pleased to see those under 30 enjoying TOS. I am old enough to have seen a few of the episodes on their original network run and I have to tell you, that TOS was amazingly cutting edge at the time. While there are some later Treks that had some great drama, you just can't beat Shatner and Nimoy playing it straight and serious. Kirk in the Corbomite Maneuver or in the Man Trap, for example. Anyway, I have to tell you that it seems odd to me to speak to people about being whether or not it is out of date and old. Considering how it was so far ahead of its time for so many years, it is strange to think of it as old.

I'm 22 and have been watching Star Trek since I was born. It's not without its faults, of course, but it can still be a lot of fun.

I just turned 30 two weeks ago (f'in yay).

It was the first Trek I was exposed to and I don't know, I just respect Kirk, Spock and McCoy much more than I do the other characters. They just seem more like someone I'd want to be like.

The later Treks all just seem more like how we already REALLY are here in the 20th century.

While some might bemoan how classic/TNG Trek for it being 'unrealistic' and 'pie-in-the-sky' utopian...I enjoyed it, I liked having a humanity I could aspire to be part of one day.
