Third therapist in....6 years? Hope this one helps...

Maybe fourth or fifth, I can't tell at this point. My last therapist was okay, I liked her but I switched insurances and now need to find a new therapist.

I find therapists are like medication. Some work, some don't. And it's difficult for me to find a therapist I like and can work with simply because of my paranoia (group therapy does not work. We tried. It failed absolutely miserably and funny at that). And one on one sessions are tough and a bit tricky because my cognitive functions early in the morning don't function as well as they do at night, so it's tough to get a good bearing on my mind set in the morning as it is at night when I am actually thinking and reacting to my environment.

Which also makes it difficult to diagnosis me, which is why I am going to try and go into this session with a blank slate and have a re-evaluation to see where I stand.

Hopefully this time I don't wind up in a mental institution (again) and they let me be :klingon: I can't afford to go back to a hospital.

I've had some truly crappy ones and some that really gave me some insight. If this one doesn't work out, I'll give you the number of the one I have now.

I had to go without insurance for a while, and she was willing to work with me on a sliding scale while I was switching.

Thanks Crusher...Wait...what are you doing up?

*yawns*

But hopefully this one'll work out. I have some issues that have cropped up. *sighs*

I have a had more than a few therapists in my time mostly due to changing circumstances. Why can't you get a night appointment? Is it a private or an institutional therapist? I always had my appointments at night after work. Maybe it might help to write out what you want to say or even write out some things instead of staying them beforehand. A good therapist should be open to whatever makes you the most comfortable.

A lot of therapists I know (well my insurance covers) works during the day, morning. *shrugs* I don't know.

Writing down might work but then I also lose it or toss it away

Call your insurance and ask them to help you find a therapist who has evening hours. They might even have a website that allows you to search for providers based on various criteria.

It might not always be the therapist that makes it work or not. Are you aware that there are different types of therapies? It might be a good idea to figure out which type of therapy works best for you.

So.. all you guys who go to a therapist... are you from the US? My experience of those who frequent shrinks is that they're all from America.

That's right. There are no therapists anywhere else except in America. I even understand that the Irisih don't even know what one is while the British refer to them as, "that silly chap who chatters on." No one in any other country from America suffers from any condition that would require a therapist. No one.

Yep, I'm aware. Just trying to figure out which one is best.

Maybe you should see a therapist for that attitude of yours.

Did you PM Holdfast to tell him he doesn't exist?

He's going to be so upset. :(

To the OP: Have you tried a therapist that follows Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
My son was seeing a therapist for over a year and the guy should have had his license taken away from him. He was, if you will pardon my language, a bigfuckingasshole. He, in combination with the drugs he prescribed, made our lives a living hell.

Afterwards when the dust settled, my son was hooked up with a CBT and it was life changing for him.

Sometimes it only makes things worse if you spend all your sessions talking about your past. Sometimes its better to work with the therapist to find out how to say, "OK, this is how i am, time to move forward and learn the skills to live a better life".

Sending you lots of hugs and i hope you find a therapist that's right for you. And that your insurance company will do the right thing.
