Be careful if you do any PvP today (Saturday 3/27/10) as there's a nastyt bug after last night's patch that will de-level you after a PvP match on the 'Cracked Planet' or 'Shantytown' maps (and maybe more).
Devs are aware and working on afix for this (and a way to restore any affected player character) - but PvP is probably not a good option atm.
Interesting bug. Does this mean STO has implemented de-leveling as some kind of death penalty or plans to do so?
I might be canceling my subscription. I've really enjoyed the game for the most part, but today's experience has completely turned me off it.
I spent 3+ hours playing The Big Dig mission. I died and respawned... into a frickin' pole. I couldn't move and /stuck wouldn't work. I was also invisible to the enemy and unaffected by nearby explosions and fire so I couldn't die and respawn again. I submitted a bug report hoping a GM would pop in (like in CoH/CoV) but no luck. As a last resort I beamed up to my ship but when I beamed back down it was a different instance and I couldn't switch to the right one. (Yes, I could have just stayed there in the pole, but I didn't know how much longer the mission was and I didn't want to be a mooch off everyone else's efforts.) As it turned out, my teammates and other players finished the mission roughly 45 minutes after I initially became stuck. I did not get any reward or mission complete. According to my teammates, the final player scores showed me far and away the best player with 38,439 points to second place's 30,119.
Obviously I am extremely pissed off that I was robbed of both my time and the mission reward due to a glitch. I submitted a ticket (and posted in the STO forums) asking to receive the mission xp and reward but have yet to receive any response. My subscription is up for renewal on 4/4. If I don't get a satisfactory response this week, I will cancel my subscription.![]()
I know how you feel Dent:

Jumping to another instance got me free, but then i couldn't return to the instance where the rest of the team was...

I have to admit I kinda like that idea. It gives you more incentive to survive.
Had a similar issue last night while doing the Fire Caves mission

"I would love to see the casual scum removed from this game, DP will be able to do that, then the real players can start to enjoy the game without the one button bashers who come on for a hour and sit hitting one button"
Oh, I'm sorry Queen Marie Antoinette. But I don't live in my mom's basement and I don't have her still around to do my laundry and to cook all my dinners for me so an hour every other day or so is all the time I have to play this game. So forgive me if a death penalty will send me back to Ensign faster than my current rate of progression toward Lt. Commander 2 at this point.
I hate primadonnas like that who think it's their way or the highway. The best option is for Cryptic to just incorporate a difficulty slider where the player can chose if they want a death penalty or not. I don't have enough time in my day for one. Apparently some basement dwellers do.
