In this thread are a few of my earlier attempts at ship design plus a few designs that I hit a dead end with and went off into another direction. Each ship is at various stages of work and some are unfinished.

1st up is my attempt at the Santa maria
for some reason she never got finished as I got bored and as usual wandered off onto another design

next is a excelsior era frigate,The Excalibur, May come back to this design as I think she has potential.

Next is a ship based off the baker class destroyer, the Taylor. she is a scout ship crew of about 50. stopped working on her as it gave me the idea for the Excalibur above

Ah yes the Sabre tooth frigate. a late 'a' era ship. thought oif the sabre class off the tng era and tried to do a 'a' version of it. Wasn't happy with the shuttle bay

last one the Tempest class starship of the baton rouge era. basically a baton rouge version of the Miranda

got a few more designs that I haven't posted if anyone is interested

Saber Tooth thirded! Way cool. Makes me want to do a kitbash with an old unassembled Reliant model kit i've got floating around.

great designs :) :techman:

i had a simialar idea actually like the sabertooth cept the nacelles on mine were stuck out in front more. :)

Id like to see what more you have :)

Hmm, that sabertooth is very cool...I've been trying to do embedded nacelles (into the primary hull) for ever...never could figure out good front "bussard scoop" configurations.
Very inventive solution. I may have to start sketching again :)

Nice work.

I also like the concept of a much smaller craft, with a crew of 50. Nice to get away from the "city in space" sized ships.

Thanks guys!
I'll dig thruogh my hard drive for some more. I think somewhere I've got a Klingonised Miranda that I started on
judexavier I know what you mean about cities in space I belive a ship can only be so big before it becomes a station

found a few more designs

1st up is a lightning class intrepid dreadnought. started on this one a while back while doing a 2d version for someone on this board

made a start on a tng era connie but then relised that no matter how good a ship was in the 2260's it wouldnt be going strong a 100 years later

tried to do a refitted klingonised miranda but didnt like it in the end

last one is a tos hospital ship

The TNG Constitution and Klingon Miranda are my favs :) :techman:

and your TNG Constitution would work if it was a new build and not a 3rd or 4th refit to a ship constructed in the 2240's thru 60's :)

Are you drawing all of these from scratch? or are they kit-bashes from models on 3d warehouse?

the lightning is a kit bash but I cant remeber where the original came from. it's one that's been sitting on my hard drive for quiyte a while.
the others a friend of mine did a few parts and others are scratch built. now I do scratch build more parts as I've gotten used to sketch up

Not sure it's a good idea to put a Warp nacelle in the path of two torpedo launchers. One stray torpedo could blow the nacelle clean off and possibly blow up the ship.

Plus wouldn't you have plasma conduits, support pylons and whatnot going right through the middle of the shuttlebay?

Have to admit -- that is one of the very few three-nacelle designs that I've seen and liked. Seems to balance out the Intrepid-class hull a bit more, visually.

(No offense to the original designer, of course, who is here on the BBS. The ship on the show was quite nice as well.)

Cheers,
