What would you do on the holodeck?

Run a simulation of an episode of the old British TV series The Avengers with Diana Rigg as Emma Peel (ROWRFF!) and myself as John Steed.

Don't know how I'd look in a bowler hat, though.

I'd prolly slip and fall because it would be covered in an outrageous amount of thousands of crazy trek fans man gravy. Therefore I would never get within 100 miles of it.

(Yoda voice) Hmm.

Afraid...are you?

Hmm...you will be!

You...WILL...be....

One that occurred to me way back when was a car chase sim roughly based on something like the chase from Bullitt, or The Seven-Ups

Another idea was that I command the Graf Spee prior to the Battle of the River Plate and see how that could be made to be a different outcome both ways. Plus variations like the Philadelphia running hard aground off shore of Tripoli. Do I surrender like Bainbridge? Or do I fight it out, trying to capture one of the Tripolitan vessels for a ride home?

A variety of first person shooters. All involving Nazi's natch, no matter when/where the game is set. Flight sims would fall into this category.

i have given this extensive thought and even have a shirt that says "what happens on the holodeck stays on the holodeck" (thinkgeek makes me happy). the first thing i would do would be holo data if real data wasn't still "fully functional and anatomically correct." then I would do it up holonovel voyager style with some of my favorite books (i'd start with microserfs, i loved daniel).

I'd run a simulation of DS9's Ops where I and all the station's females fend off a Cardassian attack, with no clothes on.

 Oh crap, now I'm in trouble.

Me:
WWII fighter pilot, 56th Fighter Group, escorting B-17s over Germany in a P-47. Flight sims are one thing, but a totally immersive dogfight with Fw-190s, trying to save the Big Friends on their way to Regensburg, would be the ultimate experience for this military airplane buff.

You?
waiting for you in a me 262. or something private with t'pol.

Don't MAKE me bring a P-80 to the game!

Can you imagine the porn industry?! If we had that technology today it would be crazy! There would probebly be safeties put in them unless you pay a ton of money for the good stuff, but I bet there would be hackers galore.

I would probebly play out every game/movie/tv show that I ever enjoyed throughout my life.
Ppl keep looking at it like a video game console (or porn) but I bet it would replace TV and movies (for the most part, except for the nastalgics) too.

1. Fighting for Grant during the Civil War
2. be a victim in Baywatch
3. Go on long hikes in the Canadian rockies and watch the mammoths and mastadons browse from a cliff high above.
4. Starship Captain
5. Hunt Dinosaurs

The thing I always wondered about the holodecks, especially Quark's holosuites, is who did the jizz mopping? Did they have an auto-clean feature for that?

I probably need therapy.
Well, since you asked ...
The Life and Times of a Holodeck Janitor

When not enraging the janitors, I'd probably enjoy interactive fiction. Everyone seems to use the holodeck for relaxing settings or one-off adventures, but I want something with a plot. And maybe my own theme music.

If I could be damn sure that I wouldn't be walked in on, and nobody could check up on what I was doing there, there would be a whole lot of wierd-ass fetish stuff that would fill all of my free time.

Other than that, I'd do a lot of "time traveling," observing differ ent time periods I'd love to see, but couldn't since time travel isn't real, and that's why I'd have to rely on a holodeck for that.

Hey!

Awww, c'mon. Realistically speaking, what would 99 percent of us do on the holodeck? Things that would be inappropriate to describe in detail here, that's for sure!

Well of course, after I landed from the combat mission, I'd relax with one or three of the girls I had the hots for in high schooi, or possibly Mila Kunis and Eliza Dushku. In Jello.

Yeah, I would run the "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" program and play the role of Peter Bretter (Jason Segel) to get down with Rachel Jansen (Mila Kunis) in Hawaii.

I would also like to play Dave Bowman in the "2001: A Space Odyssey" program and Col. George Taylor in the "Planet of the Apes" program.

I dunno.

It might replace most video games, and possibly all porn, but sometimes you just want to sit and take in some entertainment without interacting - maybe while you eat dinner, for example.

There will still be books, and there will still be something like TV.
