Do you think the filmmakers came off like douchebags on the DVD?

To me they came off as just obnoxious with this 'How do we make Star Trek cool again?' attitude.

I mean I like the movie ,but that comment was wrong plain ,and simple.

Just shows the arrogance of today's movie makers.

Most of them get in because of who they know anyway.

"Star Trek" had stopped being "cool" with the general public just after "First Contact" ended its theatrical run.

The new creators weren't obnoxious at all. They were correct.

No. They came off as understanding what they were doing and why they were doing it.

That some fans might be offended by the truth that Trek stopped being very popular quite some years ago and needed to be enhanced and changed considerably to restore its appeal doesn't make the producers "douchebags" - it means that fans can really, really lose perspective.

I think the commentary reflects a workforce that is more in line on how Lucas and his team works. Basically, no one disagrees or challenges anyone's point of view. Just look at the team. Everyone has worked with JJ in the past and the commentary certainly reflects that.

A lot of stuff that's said in this commentary track isn't really all that insightful either. The writers are always praising the decisions that were made like how they decided to have the Romulans speak english instead of speaking Romulan with subtitles. They literally praised that decision as 'brilliant'. :vulcan:

Some methods can be good, but some can just be plain stupid. Anyone who thinks that having your main character grope the female character for laughs is not my idea of enhancing it's appeal.

And you base that from what specifically?

The fact that they spend more time congratulating each other than talking about the film itself.

Of course, why shouldn't they? But that still isn't evidence for the fact that "No one disagreed with each other." You honestly don't think that Orci and Abrams had creative differences at times or that the writers may still have things they would have liked to have kept the same that Abrams or the heads at Paramount asked to be tweaked?

If my address this again. Its not like he was "groping" on purpose. Happens in real life. It even happened to me. I tripped, reached out to break my fall and wound up with a hand full of boob. Its funny because its real.

No. While I dislike the movie... I believe the filmmakers thought they were being respectful to what went before.

That wasn't arrogance. That was just a pragmatic assessment of the state of the franchise at that moment.

You can't fix a problem unless you acknowledge it exists. Otherwise you're just blithely steering the Titanic into another iceberg.

STAR TREK was in a slump. Thank goodness Abrams and Co. had the good sense to realize that a course correction was needed.

What I want to know is why we hear something on the Narada ( as Robau is brought before Nero ) that sounds a lot like Russian.

If you look at video of my friends and I it is clear we have been friends for a long time and some of us have even worked together in the past. It would be silly to misconstrue that camaraderie for all of us essentially just being 'yes men' to one another. They were talking, as a group, about a wildly successful (monetarily and critically) film; did you expect to see them bickering and pulling one each others hair or something?

No. Maybe a little like Monday Morning Quarterbacks but that's to be expected; the film, much to the dismay of a vocal few, was not a failure and neither was their assessment or approach to revitalization.
