Water Fluoridation-Good or Bad

Here is the story that I saw today about Fluoride. It is about a strange non-water soluble stuff in the bag of Sodium fluoride from China. The Amesbury water plant guy says about 40% of it won't dissolve in the water and you can see it in the buckets he has collected it in.

More and more people I know drink bottled water, partly to get away from fluoride. Brushing your teeth with it is fine, just don't swallow more than you have too.

And why am I bathing, washing and watering my plants in flouridated water?

I knew someone was going to post that scene.

Can anyone make a reasoned, scientifically sound argument against flouridation? Even if such an argument were presented, it would be difficult to take seriously because railing against the alleged evils of water flouridation is traditionally associated with ultra-right-wing paranoid nutcases like the fictional General Jack Ripper.

“Have you ever seen a Commie drink water?” Priceless!

Funny...in VT it's associated with the same left-wing people who suggest that 9-11 (specifically the Pentagon attack) wasn't as portrayed.

If memory serves, as pointed out above, the issue isn't with flouride in toothpaste, but with it in drinking water. I don't recall the details (too much flouride!), but a search engine could probably dig stuff up.

As of right now until proven otherwise I'm placing the "water flouoridation is evils" people in the same camp as the goofballs that continue to refuse to inoculate their children cause they still believe it causes autism.

It's actually really bad, you aren't supposed to swallow it.

Yeah, scientists found that it kills you...if you eat 50lbs of it per week.
Same thing with artificial sweeteners and other food additives. They are safe, but it's also true that they kill you in extremely high dosages. I mean like the equivalent of pounds per day over an extended time.

You'd have to drink insane amounts of water to even notice it. Unless you find a way to de-ionise the flourid, i believe it's more dangerous in it's elementary form.

I have a master's degree in envl engineering and have taken several water chem classes. So allow me to chime in with an 'expert opinion' even though I took a detour to the pub on the way to class some nights.

In small doses, it promotes healthy teeth. If overdosed, it can make teeth look mottled.

I've never heard another argument against it.

Chlorination is the one that opens up the big can of worms due to the byproducts it can form as it breaks down, such as tri-halo methanes, haloacetic acids, etc.

As the saying goes, it's the dose that makes the poison. I'd feel perfectly safe diving into a chlorinated swimming pool. In fact, I wouldn't want to swim in a pool that WASN'T chlorinated. But I'm not about to drink a quart of chlorine bleach.

Same goes for mercury in amalgam tooth fillings. If you have old amalgam fillings that are sound, there's no reason to have them drilled out and replaced with newer materials that cost more and don't last as long. Unless you're feeling charitable toward your dentist.

Too much chocolate would be poisonous as well. I've only ever drunk tap water when in my own country. I do have very strong teeth.

Too much of anything can kill you.

Too much water itself (fluroided or not) can kill you.

The fluroide in the water is fine and harmless. There's much greater things out there to worry about than fluroided water.

How many people has it killed?

Who knows.

Just because it doesn't kill you right away doesn't mean it isn't fucking with your body.

I'm sorry, I just figured the population of many countries have been drinking this fluoride water for some time now that maybe, just maybe there would be a large number of cases pointing to it shortening lives and making a whole bunch of people chronically sick by now.

I guess the New World Order people are really smart. Feed poison to the entire population and it it never shows up!
