Star Trek WINS Oscar!

Congratulations to all the make-up artists who worked on ST XI. I have "The Making of Star Trek" book and the make-up and costumes were so well done. I am thrilled to see Star Trek finally win an Oscar.

I thought they did a great job, and was very surprised when I learned that Keenser was not CGI. That's some good work!

^^ Because I don't think the film deserved a damned thing.
It won for make up. Are you saving that the work done was not worthy of the award based solely on the fact it was in a film you did not like? Cant you seperate the work done by these artists from the film ?

Petty doesn't even begin to describe this.
Well, not really. The main complaint of those who disliked the film wasn't the quality of the make-up. Disliking the film and being of the opinion that other movies were more deserving of the gong (I can't believe District 9 wasn't nominated) aren't mutually exclusive.
The award is for make up. So unless the make up wasn't deserving of the award bitching about it winning an award (for make up) base on disliking the film is petty. Warped9's opinion of the film is well known and to my recollection he's never mention the make up as a factor.

Seems to me there are as many "main complaints" of folks who don't like the film as there are folks who don't like the film - which is to say a few but not so many as to be troublesome.

So Abrams has brought one more Oscar to the Trek Franchise than it's managed in 40-odd years, right?

His little black eyestalks were CGI, but such a delightful change to the usual: having extremely human actor's eyes peering through alien makeup.

I can't figure out why a Star Trek fan would be upset that Star Trek actually won something???

How is this bad in any way?

Your Star Trek? That's cool, so if you own the franchise, why did you commission a work that you did not like, but brought in a massive amount of funds for the franchise, brought in a large range of new fans, and of course gave new life in a franchise that was slowly losing support.

I don't understand. I can understand if Asylum Films made the new movie. We all know that the new film's makers did not consult YOU or this forum about what makes a great movie because WE at TrekBBS are the definitive authority on how to make a great movie that would bring in lots of money (for the studio) and put us on a cloud of euphoria. Sorry it didn't happen that way.

Back to the forum, Good for the franchise, and maybe we will get a good new series or string of movies out of the deal.

Well we're at least going to get another movie out of it, produced by Abrams with the full support and backing of the people who do own Star Trek, made to his demonstrably successful tastes and high standards...and, speaking for myself, hopefully featuring Zoe Saldana prominently. ;)

Its cool that Star Trek has finally won an Oscar.

Its only taken 30 years of Trek Movies to get here, but they did it.

:techman:

I said drop it.

Will you ever cease this power-trip, ordering people what to do, egotistical modding policy? Stop censoring people and let them get on with discussion and banter, and stop trying to make everything about you and your over-the-top headmaster type censorship.

Power-hungry mods who feel the need to flex their 'muscles' and make sure people know they're in charge annoy me greatly.

M'Sharak is one of the more relaxed, and certainly less paternalist/maternalistic moderators around here - evidenced by the relative paucity of warnings handed out in forum that could qualify for dozens on any given day.

Yeah, I can tell from time to time that M'Sharak doesn't always love my humor and choice of words or posts...but all things considered he and I get along fairly well and he hasn't once warned or banned me from these forums during our long tenure together in here. He gets enough done with the occasional "I'm disappointed in you" graemlin or "Watch it, now" remark to put you in your place.:techman:

And besides, I like the guy.
