Sleep Inducing Movies

I have to admit that I have fallen asleep at the movies. Sometimes becaues, for awhile, I worked crazy hours with the navy, and when I went to the movies I was so tired...

But, other times, movies have been so boring, and maybe not bad, but boring and put me out....

GHOSTBUSTERS 2 is the one I most remember. My friend and I went to see that movie, and we BOTH fell asleep. The usher-ett, she was so hot looking too, had to wake us up at the credits.

DUNE..yeah...I know...but that movie moved along soooooo slow. My friend had to wake me because I was snoring...

BATMAN..the one with Val Kilmer. I made it halfway and was gone.

The Abyss...another movie that put me out cold. I went back to see it, and made it through the second time. But had the DIRECTOR's cut come out at the movies, I don't think I would have fallen asleep the first time since the directors cut was so much better..

what about you?

Rob

It's rare that movies put me to sleep, especially if I've never seen them before. It's when I watch a movie for a second or third time that I tend to pass out.

That said, when I was younger and slept over at my best friend's house, we would always watch "Homeward Bound" when we were ready to fall asleep.

I've never fallen asleep at the movies. The closest I've ever come, though, was a midnight showing of Herzog's NOSFERATU THE VAMPYRE. A spooky, atmospheric film, but probably too slow and quiet for that late in the day!

A friend of mine once dozed off during the (dreadful) remake of THE AVENGERS. I didn't have the heart to wake him . . . .

I feel asleep during when George lucas first updated the effects on ANH during the 1990s. To be honest, it was during the running around the Death Star in plastic jammies where there was no noticeable change to the movie, by that time I have seen Star Wars enough times to memorize the movie, and I had a late night of working.

I've fallen asleep at Insomnia, ironically, the Stallone version of Get Carter, Die Another Day and Pirates of the Caribbean...2? 3? Gosh, I can't remember, they were the same terrible movie. No, wait...it was 2.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil which I tend to refer to as Midnight in the Garden of Bad and Not So Bad.

My mom actually fell asleep the other day when we went to see "Alice in Wonderland."

You're mom is not alone. Every TIM BURTON movie I have ever seen has some kind of 'sleep' vibe to it. Sleepy Hollow, Batman(s), whatever. I'm supposed to take my kids to see ALICE this weekend, and will down some JOLT, maybe a viagra if I have to, so I can stay up through Alice..will be a challenge.

Rob

"Sleepy Hollow" at least had a story I was interested in. "Alice" does absolutely nothing to make you give a damn.

2001: A Space Odyssey and Fantasia are two movies that I don't think are bad, but if I'm anywhere close to being tired can put me out like a light.

I've never fallen asleep during a movie. And I once watched the entire series of Scenes from a Marriage and a Tarkovsky film through the wee hours of a night. I was understandably bleary eyed, but awake.

Closest I've got is pausing a movie, going for a little lie down, and discovering the 'lie down' resulted in morning.

The Exorcist (first time I saw it; I stayed awake and enjoyed it on a rewatch last halloween) and When Harry Met Sally are the only two that spring to mind if I'm not counting familiar stuff that I've seen before and left running in the background on the bedroom TV

I actually fell asleep during(drumroll) The Matrix. In my defense, I'd worked 14 hours(6am-8pm) and it was a 9:30 showing. I felt so bad about it, I made that the first DVD I ever purchased. :)

I also dozed off during Saving Private Ryan. 'Course, I fall asleep on car trips longer than 20 minutes, during meetings, attending lectures, sitting at the DMV....

At the theater, the only time I've ever fallen asleep was during Benji: The Hunted. I begged and pleaded my dad to take me to see it, and he ended up enjoying it more than I did. :p

I was notorious for falling asleep during film screenings during college. It didn't help that they always seemed to put us in a tiny, dark basement classroom where the room temperature was pretty darn close to body temperature. :o

At home, it depends on how tired I am. I've made it through a one-day screening of the entire extended Lord of the Rings trilogy without yawning, and yet other times I can't make it through an episode of The Inbetweeners.

I've never fallen asleep watching a movie, but I can't stand having the light of the screen on while I sleep, so that's probably why.

Yeah, that's usually the way it is with me. I know on one occasion I fell asleep while watching Star Wars, and on another while watching Alien, but I'd already seen both films a bunch of times before that.

On the extremely rare occasion that I fall asleep during a movie, it usually has less to do with the movie and more to do with me simply being tired or way too comfortable in my seat. I actually came very close to falling asleep while watching The Hurt Locker recently (:o) at my parents' house, but I managed to stay awake.

My dad has an unfortunate tendency to fall asleep during movies, either at home or at the cinema, which can be a bit embarrassing as he will often start to snore. If that happens, usually I just nudge him awake.

I wouldn't have either. Given how godawful that movie was, I hope he appreciates what you did for him.
