Whoopdeedo.Star Trek beat out Il Divo and The Young Victoria for the Academy Award for Best Makeup.
The franchise's losing streak is over!![]()
I agree. It doesn't compare to all the Oscars won by the previous ten movies.
What I find kind of funny is that ultimately Avatar didn't get many more than Star Trek did.
Too bad the movie still sucks, Oscar or not.

Past movies in the franchise have had equal to superior makeup. First Contact and Nemesis both come to mind. This movie was a mainstream success, and thus that is why it was even nominated in my opinion. FC contact was nominated in this category in 1996, and I think Michael Westmore's make-up was superior.

In Star Trek, aliens looked far more alien than before, and there was more diversity between them. It looked and felt believable. To me, the makeup for Star Trek was a good step up from Westmore, and that's no slight to him at all.

Like Scotty's little Jem'Hadar/Ewok hybrid friend, the bald guys with tattoos on their heads, the guys with the severe haircuts and pointy ears, and the girl with the green bodypaint? Real diverse![]()
