The theatrical version never had a home video release in the UK. Which is something I personally lament as I hate the Scooby Doo ending.

There are two versions available, the original DVD release is a non-anamorphic release of the version that was released to VHS back in the nineties. It has operation retreive the Scooby Doo ending and all the rest.

The Special Edition is the two disc release with the anamorphic picture that Meyer has tinkered with some more (flashback sequences during the mindmeld/rape) This is probably the one you want for the better image quality.

Ooh! My mistake, the original theatrical cut is available in the UK, but it's Blu-ray only.

The original theatrical cut is also available on UK-DVD.

This 2-disc dvd set contains the longer director's cut.

The theatrical cut dvd is a 2009 release with vastly improved picture quality, original theatrical aspect ratio (2,35:1 instead of the cropped 2,00:1 aspect ratio of the directors cut dvd ) and of course no Scooby-Doo ending or the (in my opinion) very annoying flashbacks during the Spock/Valeris mindmeld scene.

I liked those flashbacks. I remember when I was a kid watching the film I thought to myself "Huh? Who's admiral Cartwright? Romulan Ambassador? What Romulan Ambassador?" I like how it establishes the targets they must detain when they beam down to the conference.

The Directors Cut is not cropped, it has the same width, but more picture at the top and at the bottom. I haven't seen the 2009 theatrical version yet, but if it:s 2,35:1 then THIS is the cropped version!

Neither are cropped!

The 2.00:1 is the 70mm print that only certain theatres featured back when the film was released. All the other cinemas got the 35mm print, which was 2.35:1. They are both theatrical versions. The 2:1 is the director's preferred format, but not every cinema back then could afford to show it.

According to IMDB Star Trek VI was shot in Super 35 (2:00:1).

From this negative 2 different prints were made.

1) a 70 mm print with 2.20:1 aspect ratio and
2) a 35 mm print with 2:35: 1 aspect ratio

On this DVD-Times webpage the comparison screenshots show the 2:35:1 screenshots to be better composed than the 2.00:1 shots.

So, to this date, the 70mm 2.20:1 version has yet to see it's release on disc.
