Why So Many White/Black/Gray/Silver Cars?

I'm pretty flexible about what color my car is. I really wanted a CR-V, there was only one left, and I was too impatient to wait months, so I took whatever color they had. I ended up with green. And it doesn't look too bad, really.

I have a CR-V as well. Granted it was my grandfather's first, so he picked the color. He has a silver one now.

Come to think of it, my dad has a white truck and my sister has a black car. My brother and I are the oldballs with blue CR-V and red car.

I think it's because color factors heavily into the saleability of a vehicle and Americans are buying more and more used cars. My uncle worked in used cars for years and he said it was far easier to sell a silver car. Green cars (mint and forest) are apparently the hardest to sell.

I like silver because it reflects other colors. I also like it because it feels clean and organized, like all the atoms lined up in a straight line, and work together in an orderly fashion. Slick, clean lines and a reflective light. That's why I prefer silver (even though my car is green).

The one I don't get is yellow, especially with black trim. WTF you wanna look like a taxi?
There are different shads of yellow you know. Current yellow on GM performance cars is quite different a yellow from Taxi cabs. And if someone mistakes a Camaro, Corvetter or Cobalt for a taxi, I'd be worried about that persons eyesight

And I want yellow to stand out from the sea of regular joes color and cars around here.
I've been asked if I want a yellow Camaro with black stripes because of Transformers. No, I answer, I want it because the car pops like hell in that color scheme.

I'm actually not a big fan of the production Camaro's yellow paint color. GM offers a "Transformers" edition model in that yellow with autobot badging that's supposed to mimic Bumblebee. However, Bumblebee was a completely different shade - more a golden yellow than a bright canary yellow. I wish they'd offer the actual paint color from the film. It'd look better.
The Transforms edition with all the Autobot badges I find kind of silly. Plus you don't even get the completely different stripes Bumblebee has.

The reason why they don't sell it with the paint job that's in the movies, is because that paint job is a multilayer paint job that changes between yellow and orange depending on angels and light. It costs about 10 000 dollars to do. I do agree though that there are other yellows they can use. GM has a great metallic orange in the Atomic Orange on the Corvettes, surely they must have a good metallic yellow? If they'd offer either on the Camaro, I'd be interested.

Bright red or dark red? I quite like dark red, but sadly a lot of bright reds look like ketchup :/

Oh hey I just noticed you've quoted me in your av :D

Well that's not to bad a red actually :)

And this whole Viking thing has giving me an idea for a short

Don't ask me, I'd never get a white car. Black, maybe, but would have to be for a lack of other colors, gray, eh, silver, probably never. I like the colors that pop, like yellow and orange. Then again, I'm never one to follow the mass.

The first car I remember my parents having was a very yellow Ford Escort - it was great, you could always spot it in any car park instantly because no other car looked like it. I don't think it was a popular colour. ;)

Spoken like a true Chevy fanboy. :p

Because I don't want to drive a used Volvo or "ricer" like everyone else my age around here? Yeah guess I'll plead guilty to that then.

My last car was a dark bronze/ gold color. The current one is a metallic dark grey.

In my area, one of the reasons why people buy a lot of white cars is that the interior of a white car stays about 20 - 30 degrees cooler during the day in the summertime. White cars do not absorb heat like cars of other colors do.

We assume anyone driving a black car is either a masochist or from out of state.

I agree. Most bright reds look terrible on cars, unless they're some sort of expensive sports car. I much prefer darker shades of red.

It's pretty simple I think:

Black & White both look awesome right after you clean them.
Grey & Silver don't show dirt if you don't clean them.

So black and white are popular with people who like cars, and grey and silver are popular with people who don't (I'm generalising, but you get my drift). Doesn't leave much room for all the other colours.

Plus, they all retain resale value well (though this is of course somewhat begging the original question).

I traded my white truck for a dark blue vehicle (straight trade with Grandpa). I was really missing my white one come summer time.
