Dr. Spock?

balls

Commander
Red Shirt
We all know Spock is a pretty smart guy. Do you think Spock earned a Ph.D or multiple Ph.Ds in his lifetime?

I'm sure he did - they should work a "Dr. Spock" joke into the next movie. We've already had the "Star Trek" joke in First Contact.

Why not? After all according to the dossiers on the official website, Sulu has a Ph.D. You'd think that Spock being the SO and a pretty brilliant guy would have multiple degrees.

"Dr. Spock?"
"I prefer to go by Mr. Spock, if you don't mind. I find the doctor to be rather...self-serving."

I agree, it would be a nice inside joke and a nod to the confusion from the 60's and 70's between the character from our beloved show and the real life baby Doctor and his book.

My mother still makes that mistake and calls our Spock 'Dr. Spock'

I think it would be a little amusing.

They ought to occasionally have a little fun with this kind of thing - Galaxy Quest is one of my favorite Trek movies largely because given their premise they were really able to mine this aspect of Star Trek: that it's longevity is partly because it's endearing as a piece of popular culture that has generated a great many in-jokes and other oddities (not least of which are the eccentricities of the fan base).

Are you mad, Sir? Star Trek should always be deadly serious!!!!!
;)

I dunno, everyone laughed at Cochrane's "You're all astronauts on some sort of star trek," just as they laughed years before at McCoy's assertion to resurrected Spock: "my God, man, you really have gone where no man has gone before."

They did the joke before that in TNG:All Good Things...although not as obvious.
Q:(to Picard) It's time to put an end to your trek through the stars.

My TNG favorite was Picard observing "Who knows - perhaps we're all just a simulation of some sort running in a box on someone's table."

That episode is on Sci-Fi (SyFy) Channel right now, actually.

I Am Not Dr. Spock was actually an unpublished third volume of Nimoy's memoirs, covering the years he had to endure of parents asking him for advice on bringing up their children.

Voyager actually did this joke with a fair amount of cleverness in its first season. When the holographic Doctor first decided that he wanted a name, Kes suggested that he consider choosing the name of someone he admired.

He started rattling off the names of famous doctors from throughout history, and then he paused a moment and added "Dr.... Spock." I liked it, because it was done with more subtlety than a lot of Star Trek in-jokes.

I don't see why not, we know that after the five year mission on the enterprise he went on to because an ambassador on the Vulcan council, he also an scientist so that give him the Dr. before his name.:vulcan:
