okay...I CRIED!!!

Definitely. I was weeping within the first 10 minutes of the movie!

Best film of 2009.

I nearly teared up during Toy Story 2 (you know the bit) and had to sternly remind myself that it was a cartoon about toys. :alienblush:

Wow..I forgot about TSII...do you mean the part about her giving up the doll? That song was AWFUL (in a sad way)...

Maudlin, I think the word is. Something about the music and lyrics just got to me -- I guess that was intended. Pixar definitely has the knack for going for the emotional jugular.

"Of all the souls I have known...his was the most...human." Shatner delivers the goods when he wants to.

Also, all kinds of moments in Lost and BSG, which go down as the greatest TV shows of the decade, and my two all-time favorites.

Plus Wall-E near the end. Epic film.

And it's not genre...but if anyone around here still watches Friday Night Lights, that show can milk your emotions for all they're worth.

The only time I've truly bawled at a sci-fi movie would be Silent Running, which I saw first when I was about eight or nine, I guess. I mean, I REALLY cried towards the end of that one when I first saw it, esp. the way the little robot dudes sacrifices himself and the other one is really "sad" about it.

I'm sure there are others I might have sniffed a bit or whatever, but they're not coming to mind right now. Oh, hang on, the asteroid flick that wasn't Armageddon was one; the bit with Tea Leoni (I think) hugging her dad (I think) on the beach as the tidal wave hits them.

I got misty a few times in Doctor Who's "The End of Time", such as
the Doctor telling Wilf in the cafe that he's going to die and that regeneration feels like death
, but at the end when he says
"I don't want to go..."
I absolutely lost it.

I was moved by a certain scene in Babylon 5's final episode.

JMS turning off the lights followed by the station blowing up.

Yes, I think I cried during these scenes too.

Many that I teared up at have already been talked about.
The ending of nuBSG when Roslin died just killed me...

There were a bunch of 'em when I was a kid. The one that stands out is Spock's death in TWOK; when Spock slumps down and Kirk feebly says "No..." Say what you will about Shatner's acting, that remains the dramatic high water mark for Trek, IMO.

Also thought of a funny one: the original Oh God!, when George Burns walks away and vanishes at the end. I was like 4, and recall sobbing and telling my mother "but I don't want God to go!" I still think back on that whenever I'm discussing religion with somebody.

More recently, it's mostly TV shows: Doctor Who - The End of Time and the funeral at the end of Firefly's The Message come to mind.

Does being so startled and frightened that you want to cry count? Because Hellsing (not Van Helsing, there's a difference) did that alot.

But sad, boo hoo tears? The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King is the only movie that really moved me THAT MUCH.

I can't recall a film that has made me outright bawl (not since my childhood, anyway), but a few have come close, like The Iron Giant ("Superman...").

Also, while I have said in other threads that it barely qualifies as fantasy, I'll mention Bridge to Terabithia here anyway: I just watched it recently, and I was soooo not prepared for the heartbreaking turn it took towards the end. Definitely had a lump in my throat for that one.

Ah, I forgot about that one. Some would say the 30 endings go on too much...but the Grey Havens scene is a cinematic masterpiece. "I will not say do not weep, for not all tears are evil." Coupled with the great Annie Lennox song, it's heartbreaking. :(

I don't think anyone mentioned this one yet, and if someone did I apologize for repeating. The scene that did it for me recently as Star Trek 2009, the end of the opening battle sequence. It was done perfectly, using music, sound, dialogue and visuals all in concert to draw emotion out. It was just so powerful it grabbed me every time I saw it in theaters. Now that I have it on DVD, I've rewatched it about four times and it still grabs me, which I hadn't expected.

Totally agree..we just watched TREK XI on our new $500 Bluray player and..wow..it was sharp. Many of our Trek cousins have a problem with this movie; I do not. As a 'movie for the now', Trek XI really nails it, and that opening scene with Kirk's birth, and his father's death, it really is a great 'impact' opening..and does, still, bring a tear to 'me eyes.

Go watch the bloopers for this scene, you'll never cry again, you'll only laugh next time you see it. Being one of the unaired FOX episodes, I saw the bloopers online before I saw the episode on SCIFI. The bloopers did it's damage.

I'm laughing now.

The Body... when buffy says "mommy"

technically it's from the previous episode, but it's also played again at the start of the body... sad stuff (until the end and it falls apart, imho)
