Modern Warfare2 General Thread

I love using the perk (sorry can’t remember the name right now) where you can see the Claymores and C4 glowing red.
I was working on the challenge last night where you destroy “X” amount.
I used “FMJ” so I was shooting them through the walls and racked up a ton of kills last night (why do these guys camp right near their explosives? WTF?!?).
I even got the game winning kill/kills on three guys running past one last night.
It was actually lucky because all I was trying to do was destroy it.

Good job, all 3 of you. Claymores are like a piece of the landscape to me-I die or shoot them but I don't worry about them. And dumping a SPAS into a group of enemies? Priceless!

gh4-if you play Hardcore-ditch the thermal. Everyone runs CB/Ninja and a regular ACOG is easier to use...

I can't see myself playing Hardcore, I think I'd get too frustrated as I imagine I would probably get pretty much destroyed.

Plus my teammates would probably hate me as I tend to be a bit jumpy and have a itchy trigger finger.

Oddly enough, with the thermal scope, it seems like even the people with CB stand out a little better than through a regular scope. I don't quite understand it, but I haven't really had any problem not seeing the CB people when looking through the thermal.

I know what you are referring to. They have a "glary" look to them on some maps. Sadly, on other maps they "swiftly and silently vanish away" to my eyes. But if it works for you, go for it!

A question for anyone who cares to answer. On two seperate occaisons I've called in a B2 bomber that I got from a care package, not paying particular attention to my position relative to the bombing and I've died as apparent result of the airstrike.

So I guess this is telling me that air strikes that you call in can kill you but not your teammates? Is that correct? (And isn't that a little stupid?)

Secondly I was under the impression that claymores went away when you died. But now several times I've been getting the "Afterlife" message on the screen (right after my death) and the ONLY thing that I can think that's killing somebody is my claymores. So what's the real scoop on them?

Finally, just an observation about the weapons in this game. It REALLY appears to me that the weapons behave differently on different maps. On Karachi for example, I'm fairly decent with the Barrett but on the other maps, it's kind of crap shoot. It really appears that the weapons actually have less power and less accuracy depending upon the map you're in. I don't know why that should be but I'm very certain it is that way.

I would imagine that it's the same idea as your own grenades killing you... as long as friendly fire is off, your friends will be fine, but semtex to a wall and then dash by it, you'll get lit up. In all likelihood, you can bomb your friends, but you can't bomb yourself for that reason.

I've always thought that claymore disappeared on death, but I do know that they linger for a few seconds afterwards, so if someone dashes through it right after killing you, it might still detonate. Another possiblity is what you have for your death-streak... if martyrdom is on, then you'll drop grenades on death-streaks and kill whoever is nearby.

Your bombers can always kill YOU-but in Core your friends are safe.

Claymores-in Core, if you don't hit X to respawn you have about 3 seconds left on your claymores. Hesitating if you know an enemy is near one before respawning can be tactically sound.
In Hard Core, they last until your respawn timer hits zero, allowing lots of extra kills. That's why, in HC, if you camp you want to plant a claymore right by you, maybe covering your rear. Even if you get shot there's a good chance some enemy was trying to creep up on you also and BOOM! Bad day for him even after you die.

I guess that's true about the grenades, I hadn't really thought about it. I wonder why they went that route? With the grenades and stuff I mean. It seems silly that they can't kill your teammate next to you, but it kills you.

Well I don't use Martydom (another one of those things that I  over in this game) so it must be the claymores.

Oops missed your reply the first time. About 3 seconds huh? That's good to know, on both sides of the equation actually.

It's kind of funny how I've become the kind of player that I've often despised (and cursed mightily) in this game, sniping, and setting out random claymores. But admittedly It's effective, and while my k/d ratio has gone up, at times it still feels kind of cheap.

A claymore will stay active right up until the end of the round, its a nice little treat to get the final kill in the game from a claymore you placed at the beginning of a match just before you got killed....i love it......unfortunately a lot of people don't, especially those on the receiving end.

In the first game, I felt the same way because it was so obnoxious and always there. However, since it doesn't show up until you've died repeatedly w/o any kills and goes away once someone dies, I haven't felt as bad about using it.

Well now I don't mean to argue with you, but I know I've seen claymores disappear before my eyes so I know at least some of them are disappearing for some reason before the round ends and I always thought it was because the "owner" had died.

Are you maybe talking about hardcore by chance?

^I agree with gh4chiefs... I've had several times where I've tried to destroy the claymore of somebody I just killed, but all my shots would pass through it and it would just disappear. I don't think it stays unless there's a specific game-mode that allows it.

Well that's true, it is less obnoxious in this version. I actually mispoke, I actually DO use it right up until I open up "Final Stand". And the only reason I use because I feel like the other 2 are so worthless. Ooh 9 seconds of extra health right after I spawn, whoopty-freakin-doo!

Copycat is kind of good early on but after you open up some weapons it becomes kind of worthless too. If I wanted that other players class, I would have selected in the first place. :p

Not only that, but you can only have 2 out at a time. When I first went on my "claymore" binge, I used the scavenger perk and was resupplying them at will and just dropping them whereever. Later on I discovered that the first one you set down will automatically blow up after you lay down 2 more.

I think Haggis is talking about a specific game type - probably Search and Destroy. In games with rounds and no respawns, if you plant a Claymore, and then die, the Claymore doesn't disappear. It remains active until it is detonated or the round ends.

I must admit to not having played a lot of S&D on Modern Warfare 2. I used to play it all the time on World at War. I used to love leaving Bettys lying around for extra kills - much like Haggis does with Claymores.

Apparently nobody actually read my post. Claymores disappear in CORE-they linger until you respawn in Hard Core. If you saw a claymore fade away in CORE the person has been dead for more than a second or two. In Hard Core, its because the person respawned. Those are the only factors-HQ, S&D, TDM etc have no bearing except for the mode in which they are being played. In a single elimination game like S&D, they go away when you respawn-ie.-when the round ends and a new one begins.

Ok, keep your hair on.
