Looking at Alexander in Sons and Daughters and looking back

If by that you mean, the total opposite of Wesley. Wesley was the Starfleet boy genius that kept saving the ship and all the adults and couldn't go wrong (at least before he came back in season 5 and finally had a good story written about him), while Alexander wasn't cut out for Klingon ways and kept screwing up, disappointing his father and getting ridiculed when he tried to be a Klingon soldier.He really was the Klingon Wesley Crusher.
But in the end, Alexander had the last laugh, because Wesley never managed to be played by James Sloyan.

I mainly meant he was an annoying ,pointless character that alot of fans didn't like.
I liked him fine. Actually, I think Sons and Daughters is a bit of an underrated episode and I thought it was interesting to see Alexander trying to make his way as a soldier. I'd have liked to see him show up more than just the two times we saw him.
I wouldn't say I liked Alexander, but I would say he has potential as a character in the future and I would have liked to see him developed more than "oh look at me I'm a clumsy half-breed".

The thing that drives me crazy about Wesley is that - after eliciting homicidal rage in the first two seasons - he actually became kinda not so bad in seasons three and four. Then came season five, and "The First Duty", which was BRILLIANT. Then they went and wrecked the whole thing with that dumb traveler garbage in "Journey's End"!

Hm, in that respect, you are correct. Though, personally, I'd say Alexander got less annoying in his later appearances on DS9 (the same way Wesley got less annoying in his final few appearances on TNG, except the aforementioned "Journey's End"). But both characters did draw a lot of ire from the fans, it seemed.I mainly meant he was an annoying ,pointless character that alot of fans didn't like.
Read "The Left Hand of Destiny" two-part novel series (which is in turn part of the DS9 relaunch). Among other things, those books were really good for their handling of Alexander, I thought.
Actually... screw that, just read the whole relaunch. It rocks.
I could not have said better.
Though I actually did enjoyed the episode Sons and Daughters, seeing Alexander being made fun of and being totally awkward was really a kick.

I'm never quick with my praise of the Voyager cast, but in regard to the "boy on the crew" role, I have to give it up to Echeb. Here's a character they used just enough. Rather than give him a ton of episodes or a lot of focus (like they did with Alexander and Wesley) they let him appear only as necessary (going so far as to basically omit him from the finale). I think, because of that, he never reached the level of blood curdling rage elicited by the aforementioned.
I could have done without all of them, as a whole, especially Alexander on DS9 (that show had more than enough going on without his inclusion.)

I like Alexander a lot. The other night on G4, or Spike (can't remember), they had the episode in which Luwaxanna Troi teaches him the value of a mud bath. She recognized his potential.
But in this episode, Sons and Daughters, he is going through a phase, and the fact that he learns to laugh at himself is good. But really, this character is incomplete.
One hopes he will live up to the high regard of Mrs. Troi at some point, but it will have to be in a novel. He's definitely not done growing up.
You know, our children have to make their own way. It is a hard lesson for a parent to learn. Some never learn it and by intervening, slow their children's development. So, this is really Worf's story. But you knew that...

Far better James Sloyan than the second actor to play him on TNG, who is now back in jail for violating his bail.
