A Sad day....

Having received the entire 4 seasons of Enterprise for Xmas, I have reached the inevitable and rather unsatisfactory end.

Not being a full-bore trekkie, but having enjoyed TNG I wasn't really sure what to expect from ENT, but I absolutely loved it!

Sure, there were a couple of duff episodes in there, but overall, I was engrossed.

I read in a few places of people complaining that it was more like a soap, I didn't really see a problem with that.

Call me sad, but I feel like I'm missing some friends now. Guess thats testament to those involved.

I felt the same way, even after that abomination of a finale.

I suggest rewatching the series again and then moving on to the ENT relaunch novels, good stuff.

I still feel that way and I have seen it through several times. I feel sad about only 4 seasons. Sometimes I feel sad when watching a really great ep because I know it ends, too soon.

I could, and undoubtedly will, but there's 7 series of TNG that santa brought too! Although I've seen most, if not all, when they were on TV!

TNG never got me so involved with the actual characters, it didn't fell as 'personal' as ENT.

And I guess I feel cheated because the end was so rushed and there was little continuity towards the end of Season 4. The holo-deck may have worked as an episode, but never as a show finale. Watching the DVD extras, the wrap party interviews gave the impression that the cast and crew were irritated that they never got to finish it off!

Here's hoping there's another small screen series of as high a quality to back up the 2009 movie.

I've been a Trek fan for over 30 years but ENT really grabbed me on a personal level in many ways. And I was pretty damn happy about that because after a while you don't expect that to happen again.

Yeah, indeed. I'm in the same boat more or less as you are, just finished ENT last weekend, and a sad day it was too.

It was much easier to relate to the characters than in any other Trek I found. Probably because they're only about 150 years in the future, not yet living in the utopian Federation society.

That's interesting. I had the exact opposite reaction.

Seven series of TNG?? I only remember one. I wish there had been seven. Great cast, great show.

Welcome to the club my friend. As someone who also discovered Star Trek: Enterprise after it's cancellation, I know exactly how you feel. And you are right; the way some of the "so called fans" treated this series during its on air run not only lead to Enterprise's premature cancellation, but saw to it that Star Trek would have at least a 10 year absence from television.

I remember how I felt when they announced the cancellation. I felt that same sad, empty sensation.

The whole lead up to the cancellation was awful. I actually went out of town to Vegas to get away from some other stuff, and I vowed that I would not check in to see if there was any news about the fate of the show. I didn't need to, because friends were emailing me and going "ZOMG your show got canceled!"

I intend to get hold of the books. You mention 'The good that men do', which is currently in my Amazon basket, but is 'The last full measure' worth reading? I see from the various synopsis' that it takes place during the Xindi conflict, whereas I'm more interested in the what-happened-next sort of story line. Problem is, I can't get hold of it for less that £14 ($23 - in paperback) and I'm unconvinced I need to spend that much to read more about the Xindi and a load of MACOs

I personally enjoyed The Last Full Measure and I pretty much considered it an extra two episodes in Season 3. It gives you a different look at the relationship between the MACOs and the Enterprise crew. This book is not part of the "re-launch" series so it is not a continuation of the Enterprise Story like The Good That Men Do, or Kobayashi Maru or Beneath the Raptor's Wings. These books are are must readings.

Why don't you try logging on to Amazon's US site and see if you can buy these 3 books used (Heck, I'll sell you my copies!) and see if you can get them shipped to the UK. The used copies are heavily discounted.

Thats a kind offer! I've looked on amazon USA and its up for $21!

I have ordered the good that men do, and I think I'll skip the last full measure for now. Maybe if it comes down in price! I was going to send a book as a present to the USA for a freind, but it was going to cost about £6, so I doubt if the postage from there to here would be favourable. Thanks any how!
