Speaking of NCIS

JanewayRulz!

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I few days ago I was wondering if there was anyone on TV today that uses the parental rolemodel as well/as much as Captain Kathryn Janeway did during her 7 years on Voyager. The only one I could come up with was Special Agent Jethro Gibbs in NCIS. After watching this weeks repeat of "Good Cop, Bad Cop", this feeling was reinforced when Gibbs held Ziva's hand as he asked her to unburden herself.

I also decided that if Gibbs is Janeway, then Ziva (who sees herself as a souless killer) is definately Seven of Nine.

Am I crazy? Or do I just watch too much TV? ;)

No, you're not crazy. Both series have one thing in common: Good, likeable characters!

For me, both series have that in common. Voyager and NCIS are the only series where I've taken an imediate liking to ALL the main characters already in the first episode.

Not to mention good stories and great interaction between the characters.

When I had watched "Caretaker", I could hardly wait for the next episode, the same after watching the NCIS pilot episode.

As has been pointed out elsewhere, Dinuzzo is a decent stand in for Paris, which makes McGee an Earth bound version of Harry. But who would be Abby?

:) Let me guess..I was the one who made you think of NCIS cause I talk about it so much on here. :D Voyager and NCIS are somewhat similar and yes I do agree about Gibbs being a father figure to Ziva. I'm not sure who Abby could symbolize...maybe a vulcan? Just kidding on that one! Abby's the greatest character ever so I wouldn't make her a vulcan. ;) Personally I love NCIS because of the comedy as well as the drama. Sometimes Gibbs gives a slap to DiNozzo that's so funny I'm falling over laughing so hard. I know those things hurt too! I never knew what I was missing..never started watching NCIS til 2008. I remember the beginning credits..the music was superb! I love the opening sequence to that show! So I gave it a try..and when Kate died I could see why a lot of the fans were pissed off and when Jenny died too. Those were tough episodes for me to watch! Personally my favorite on that show is Tony DiNozzo(hence my av!)..he's freaking adorable and absolutely histerical! My kinda man! :D Too bad in real life he's married though.

Tuvok = Ducky? The EMH is too high strung to be Dr Mallard.

Seska = Lt Lee(?) the turncoat (?) lawyer/agent. (I haven't seen all the NCIS's)

If I should try to compare the characters and try to find similarities, they would be:

Gibbs-Janeway
DiNozzo-Paris
Ziva-Torres (or maybe Seven)
McGee-Harry Kim
Ducky-Tuvok (or maybe The Doctor)
Abby-?????

I agree that Abby is special. :techman:

The comparision between Seska and Leee was good.

Dinozzo, gets on my wick. If that character actually did work in that environment, he would have been kicked out on his first day. People like that are simply not put up with in that sort of environment.

At least Paris was slightly likable.

I, too, enjoy Gibbs and co. And they are a family there, as well. The aforementioned ep with the scene with Gibbs and Ziva was a great one, where she finally is becoming on paper what she has been already before...a treasured friend to them all, and a surrogate child for their 'Dad'....Now, of course, from a generally gender standpoint, Jethro's and Kathryn's approach to their 'kids' are different, naturally..Janeway being more demonstrative, on many occaisions, to Harry or Kes or Tom, or Lanna, and those being among my favorite parts of my beloved series...but, you know Jethro will go to the wall for any of them, as he did for Ziva, and not only out of loyalty to his team. I liked that line he had to DiNozzo's father, ''He's the best agent I've ever worked with'' That, the chemistry, and humor is what makes NCIS the show it is-and Voyager, too.

Hey! DiNozzo is likeable too..at least he is in my eyes. I do agree to some extent with you that he can grate on your nerves somewhat. His womanizing antics and self-absorbed piggishness are what makes him unique, though, and a great character on the show. He is very similar to Paris in that in the beginning Paris was a womanizer and a pig(but then turned a 180 after he married B'Ellana Torres)..DiNozzo has that same quality about him(and still does now on the show!) and it's quite amusing in my eyes anyway. I will admit that at first I didn't really like DiNozzo that much..but then he grew on me and now I can't get enough of the guy. :)

I totally agree with this post! I think that's why I love NCIS so much..because it's not just a drama..it's a comedy as well. That's what makes it such a wonderful and entertaining program to watch. Voyager as well was funny sometimes too and what made it unique was that the ship was lost 70,000 light years from home and was trying to make it back to earth. :) And sometimes, the tension between the characters on NCIS..you can cut with a knife! Especially, between Tony and Ziva! A great example of this is the episode "Reunion".

I could go along with Abby-7 Of 9.

Speaking of NCIS -- it's interesting how both Tim Russ and Connor Trinneer were in the same NCIS episode.

Speaking of crossovers, I really liked seeing Susanna Thompson AKA (depending on your perspective) Lenara Kahn (DS9's "Rejoined") not to mention the BORG QUEEN (Voyager style) as Gibbs' love interest a few years ago. I really miss her, especially since the fools went and killed off Jenny.

^ And she wasn't even a redhead.

Don't forget Chakotay as the dead marine corpse of the week.

Yeah, so did I! I recognized her and thought: that's Susanna Thompson! When I said that Mom was like: where did you see her in before? Then I said: Voyager. she was the Borg Queen! She was like: oh..ok
I knew Conner Trinner was in an episode of NCIS(saw that ep the other night!) but had forgotten about Tim Russ til I saw him on that very same episode. Kinda eerie!

......"Captain to the bridge!''.....''What is it, Ensign McGee?'' Captain Jethro Gibbs asks his Ops Officer, who, swallowing, stares back down at his console. ''Eh-it's the Borg. Again. Sir.I'm picking up two cubes, dead ahead''(Swallows noteably) ''Whatsa matter, Probie?'' helmsman Anthony DeNozzo grins over a shoulder. ''It's oh, only a couple thousand drones over there...WAITING TO ASSIMILATE YOU...'' (Gibbs headsmack) ''Mind your helm, DeNozzo. Lieutenant Ziva....RED ALERT. Load torpedo bays....''
