VGA vs DVI

Garm Bel Iblis

Commodore
I bought a new cpu this week and have a standard vga cord hooked up. i have the dvi outputs and inputs on both PC and Montior.

is it worth buying the dvi cord? is there htat much of a diference in picture quality?

Depends. What resolution do you intend to run at? If you are going to run at roughly 1280x1024 or higher, then it is probably worthwhile to go for the DVI. It's a digital signal and will not suffer from the kind of degradation that hits VGA at higher resolutions.

The image is sharper and clearer with DVI. It's not a stark difference, but it is noticeable.

yeah, i'm running at the max on my resolution, 1900x.... will it make a difference in gaming? I"m just getting into Star Trek online.

Fonts are generally easier to read at super high resolutions with DVI. Video is were the difference will be the most noticeable. It isn't exactly better, but low quality and highly compressed stuff will look noticeably worse.

If your GPU supports HD, then DVI will make a significant difference.
