Re: The Interpretation of Dreams Thread™!
OK, one dream that might make some sense.
I had an extensive dream a few days ago which consisted of several components separately, but which taken together comprised a journey I was undertaking, travelling from home in the suburbs of a city (I think it was my parents' home town) into the middle of that city.
I remember that the city itself reminded me of the time my dad used to live in Auckland, and I remember from that experience that walking from his home in the suburbs of Epsom, to try and reach Queen Street and the Sky Tower, was a very convoluted experience and that I got lost very easily, often only reaching the city centre through sheer luck and navigating, and by using the iconic Sky Tower as a reference point.
Anyway, I digress.
In this dream, I was walking into the centre of this city (which did remind me of Auckland crossed with my parents' home town) and that as my journey went on, it quickly became very dark wth the city lights coming on again. At one point I reached a stadium which I could access by climbing onto scaffolding, alongside which I could see other houses and allotments meeting out onto this raised viaduct. Here, I could see a dark alleyway down which I could climb, which I followed as I was seeing a shadowy figure in the distance. I followed him, and he led me back to the viaduct next to the stadium again - when I realised that the shadow was in fact my own self at a projected period in time.
I began to feel fear at this moment, sensing that someone might have died (perhaps a young girl maybe) and decided to carry on with the journey, climbing down walls and walking int alleyways, until I then reached an open parking space area with surrounding buildings, plastic-metal wire fencing, and night folk. In one corner was a boxing club called "Klingon" for some reason, and covered in motivational slogans enticing people to come along and fight. I declined and pressed forward towards a shopping centre, which for some reason consisted of a single one-way elevator/travelator on which I whizzed by, up and down, seeing all the shops (mostly newsagents) whizz past too in their day-glo neon lighting. I noticed, oddly, that I was the only one going in this direction of the travelator, and that all the other late-night customers were travelling against me, in the opposite direction. I neared the exit of the shopping centre out into the night, as the dream ended.
I should note that this journey seemed to take place at sunset, twilight, and the late night, and that I seemed to be travelling towards the East in this dream.
I reckon this is again on of those "journey means something" dreams, filled with perhaps self-doubt and self-criticism (hence the shadow and the circular journey by the stadium) and a need to go against the tide (hence the shopping mall incident) and avoid needless conflict on the way (hence the avoidance of the enticing boxing club), but I wonder if there's anyone else reading who might offer a better explanation?
