So, what was the blizzard of 2010 like, granpa?

Touche.

I'm at work in Downtown DC. It's deserted.

My friend is convinced that she will be the only one to survive the DC Snowpocalypse because she grew up in Chicago and knows how to deal with it. She is also convinced she will have to resort to eating her dead friends in order to survive.

Me, I'm more worried about the eventual flood that will happen when all the snow melts!

More snow forecast for the DC area on Monday. Eighty percent chance, but they say it's too soon to say how much will fall other than it won't be like the last two storms. Probably. We hope.

In other words, the same forecast we got for this storm. Let's just assume there will be snow and leave it at that.

How's the mission going? I don't get NASA TV. :(
Boring...which is good.

I wish I had work today... or tomorrow. Since I am going to Vegas on Friday, looks like I will not be working until next Tuesday.
How-ever-will-you-go-on?

Doug Hill (ABC 7) said that will most likely be an Alberta clipper producing an inch or two at most.

Snowstorms create some business winners: Hardware, liquor stores

Back-to-back snowstorms on the East Coast have brought a blizzard of sales of shovels, groceries and booze. For airlines and department stores, the region's wintry weather has resulted in millions of dollars of lost revenue.
As businesses tallied up the impact of the second major snowstorm in less than a week, forecasters warned of a third wave of snow that could hit the Northeast Monday.
On Wednesday, people planning to travel or shop were stopped in their tracks. From Washington to New York City, roads, airports and businesses were closed.

I can do 1 to 3 inches standing on my head. I'll shovel it with a tablespoon and laugh while doing it. Why? I'll let Barry Manilow sing it for you:

We drinkers have our ways
Of facing snowy days
And somehow we survive

We keep ourselves inside
Protected from the storm
Until the plow arrives

Then one day that plow appears
And we can finally go buy lots more beer

Chorus
I made it through the snow
I kept my house protected
I made it through the snow
By drinking lots of brew
I made it through the snow
And found myself respected
By the others who
Got snowed on too
And made it through

When streets are hard to find
And driving seems so unkind
Sometimes you feel so afraid

Just aim where it's been plowed
And gun your engine loud
And start your own parade

'Cause when I chased the snow away
That's when I knew that I could finally say

REPEAT CHORUS

Blame it on cabin fever.

Finally made it down to my car today after not bothering following the first storm. If I had, I would probably have attempted to save my spot like this guy did:

Anyway, this happened:

You can see the striations from the old snow half way up, which is kind of cool.

I'm a shorty, so I made a step so I could push the crap off the top:

And have a bit of a sit.

Done! Well, almost. Still need to cut through the final barrier to the road, but I'll wait til they plow again as I'm not planning on using the thing for a while yet.

Whew.

Actually managed to get to work today, thankfully. I got stuck briefly on one side road that hadn't been plowed very well, but overall my commute was a-okay. The main roads are in good shape. By the time I came home in the late afternoon, the roads were looking even better (possibly due to the bright sunlight and above-freezing temperatures). Unfortunately, the University of Maryland is still closed and is going to remain closed Friday. Ordinarily I wouldn't give a damn about school closures, but I have a part-time job on campus, and if I can't go into work, I don't get paid! So I'm now losing a week's pay thanks to the snow. The local Chick-Fil-A was also closed (??!!??), as was, apparently, the local Wal-mart (shocking). Thankfully, Columbia Mall was still open for business.
