Are the Canadian DVDs region free/run on USA machines?
Canadian DVDs are Region 1 the same as US ones.
Right. Canada and the U.S. are Region 1 and I'm sure the boxed set that's sold in both countries is the same release, but at amazon.ca it's both available and a lot cheaper.
Also, all the episodes can be viewed online at the CBC website, although I'm not sure if the show is blocked outside of Canada. Give it a try.

E4 in the UK just started showing it a couple of weeks ago and this thread has convinced me to watch it.
I put a curse on all of you for latching me onto this show.
First of all, Erin Karpluk is my new TV crush.
I'm in love with her. Yeah it's mostly physical, and yeah it's mostly the personality of her neurotic character. But I'm in love. Don't judge us, we have something beautiful.
Secondly, I'm mad at Canadian TV for making their TV seasons to damn short. Seriously, there's only 13 or 14 episodes in the seasons. Ugh. Not enough of this fabulous series.
Thirdly, I love that Candian TV series are little more fast-and-loose with language and sexual content in their episodes. But, I don't need to some hairy guy's naked ass. Unless at some point I get to Erica's ass.
Fourthly. Ugh. I like this series too much, like a poster above it's going as one of my more favorite TV Series (Dramatic.)
But a curse on all of your souls for latching me to this series.
I'm turning in my guy-card now and I'm going to sit down on the couch in my flannel nightie and watch the pilot again while eating a bowl of rocky road ice cream.

^ Now you're ready for season 2 which I thought was an improvement because it gets more creative with the format.
Season 1 had 13 episodes and season 2 had 12.
If this series isn't picked up for a third season I will put a curse on you.
