Another George Lucas Star Wars live action TV show thread!

I like that idea of emulating the '70s sci-fi aesthetic from ANH. That'd be awesome. Less CG, more practical sets/aliens/etc.

Joy

Nice idea, but this is Star Wars and George Lucas we're talking about. No matter what they do, CGI will be the star, not the characters.

That wasn't true for The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

Maybe not, but Indiana Jones takes place on Earth in the early half of the 20th century, a time easily recreated for movies and TV. Star Wars, on the other hand takes place on alien worlds and in space. CGI is a necessity. An overused one, if the PT is anything to go by, but a necessity nontheless.

I swear I must be blind because I thought that the mods deleted this thread I started for being a TV thread not being in the TV/Media forum! Glad I was wrong though, unfortunetely I started another thread in TV today after some time of thinking this one no longer existed (I did look hard for it by the way).

Anyway here is the link to the new thread in TV/Media it has a whole bunch of news links to read with news and insight into the new TV show due in 2010:

..the thread is titled "George Lucas's 2010 Star Wars live-action TV series"

I think that young Han would definitely make for good story in the new show, but I would love to see Vader as a regular or make many important appearances as the imperial enforcer; the Emperor's right hand man, or to hunt down Jedi that escaped order 66 (the purge).

Young Leia would also make for good story in the new show, her rise from court on Organa to the Imperial Senate would be intriguing to watch!

I have no desire to see Star Wars 90210. :cardie:

It'd be cool if they added some EU characters... Like, if they DO follow Darth Vader at all, maybe Mara Jade will pop up in there somewhere.

Joy

Nahh, if they introduce Mara Jade, the only writer on the show not trying to kill or write her off would be the guy who writes the episode she first appears in.

Whatever the outcome, characters, and story line for the series, I am willing to bet that it is very serialized and ends up being a twenty first century version of the old Flash Gordon style of sci fi shows. It is pretty common that is what GL relates to and will most likely base his episodic story telling on. I really hope it is not going to be an HBO only deal. I would hate for it to be drawn out between seasons like every other series on that channel; I think it would kill some of it's appeal to fans and viewers.

90210 nothing, try HBO's Rome or anything to depicting with ancient Rome or senate intrigue! That would fit perfectly with Star Wars during the Emperor's reign! Think of how exciting it would be to see young Leia join with her adoptive father Bail trying to survive the cutthroat politics of the Imperial Senate, trying to negotiate with Grand Moff Tarkin, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpitine, and eventually forming the rebellion!:techman:

I would love to see them create a show based off of Timothy Zahn's RPG game, DarkStryder. A ship-based show set after the founding of the New Republic. DarkStryder had some really cool concepts and ideas, sort of Star Wars crossed with NuBSG.

My own pipe dream is a Band Of Brothers-esque depiction of the early campaigns of the Rebel Alliance. Not the Sopranos, but it's the same network, right?

How bout we just root for HBO to develop an original space opera with Rome type intrigue and BOB type battles? Throw in a little Deadwood, Carnivale and The Wire for good measure.

Because if it's not Star Wars, then you might as well just watch Space: Above & Beyond. :p

So you want to see more of young Luke whining about not being able to leave Tattoine?

Live-Action Star Wars Series Is Leaking Details

George Lucas' live-action Star Wars TV series is still moving forward in Australia, and little clues are slowly popping up here and there as to which characters will turn up, and which Star Wars film will it most emulate.

In an interview with Total Film Magazine Lucas explained that it would be more like the original than the prequels, "

The very idea of a dark and gritty Star Wars with C-3PO is sort of ridiculous to me, especially any kind of Star Wars noir. Now, I like C-3PO, but he wouldn't work in such a context. When KOTOR gave us a darker view of the Star Wars universe, its stand-in for C-3PO was, rather sensibly, a murderous assassin droid.

But then again, maybe they'll get it to work somehow. We'll see.
