Your Top Shows of 2009

I have been meaning to post this thread since New Year as I did the same thread in early 2009 for the previous years TV. I would say try to keep lists no more than 20 if you watch that much TV with two seperate lists...

Top Shows of 2009 and Top shows of all time.

For me with Boston Legal off the air it gave Dexter to take top spot and also saw House fall from my previous year list if memory serves correct due to how good TBBT is. Scrubs 8th season was so good it had to be top 5 with 24 & Californication shooting up the list due to amazing seasons. Heroes and Family Guy dropped out of the list because of the decline in quality.

2009
1. Dexter
2. The Big Bang Theory
3. Doctor Who (UK)
4. House
5. Scrubs
6. 24
7. Californication
8. Have I Got News For You (UK)
9. Lost
10. Bones
11. Stargate Universe
12. Torchwood (UK)
13. Spooks (UK)
14. QI (UK)
15. American Dad
16. Mock The Week (UK)

19. Ashes to Ashes (UK)
20. Dollhouse

All Time List
1. Boston Legal
2. Scrubs
3. The West Wing
4. Stargate SG-1
5. House
6. Buffy
7. Angel
8. Have I Got News For You
9. Dexter
10. The Big Bang Theory
11. Nu Doctor Who
12. The Sopranos
13. Red Dwarf
14. ST:TNG
15. ST:DS9
16. Babylon 5
17. Lost
18. Stargate Atlantis
19. Life on Mars (UK)
20. Jericho

I think by the end of there runs Dexter and TBBT will be much higher up but the rest of the list should remain stable I guess. I watched The Wire for the 1st time in 2009 and I enjoyed it but never quite felt it was the easiest show to follow (the slang alone  took time) I came close to adding it to top 20 maybe in future after a rewatch.

I don't watch nearly as much television as that, and much of it has been on DVD.

On DVD, I felt the second season of Californication and the third season of Dexter were both a step down from previous efforts, though still quite watchable. I rather liked season six of Spooks, even if Zaf was so quickly let go. :(

On television, I thought Battlestar Galactica went out on a high note, as season 4.5 was probably the best run of the show since the first season. 24 delivered an okay, but far from outstanding seventh season, which was an improvement on season six. Stargate Universe was mostly terrible, dramatically missing several opportunites for improvement. If the rest of the first season doesn't get any better, I'm done, and I say that as a viewer who slogged through all of SG-1 and Atlantis (currently finishing the fifth and final season on DVD).

^ I would watch the 3rd season of Californication, I think it was the best yet ;).

Only shows on TV I currently watch...

My favorite show of 2009 was Harper's Island, the 13-hour murder mystery that aired on CBS during the summer. I loved the fresh-faced young cast, the locations and the gruesome violence.

Don't watch a lot of TV. Best shows I saw last year for the first time were Battlestar Galactica, The Inbetweeners, and Dexter's third season.

An all-time list will be no problem. No way I could say I watched near that much TV in 2009, so I'll settle for a top five...

2. Battlestar Galactica (2003, 2005-2009)
3. Dollhouse
4. Heroes
5. Mercy

All-Time
1. Angel
2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
3. Firefly
4. The West Wing
5. Lost
6. Alias
7. Freaks and Geeks
8. Roswell
9. Star Trek: The Next Generation
10. Star Trek
11. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
12. Babylon 5
13. Kung Fu
14. Monty Python's Flying Circus
15. Battlestar Galactica (2003, 2005-2009)
16. Smallville

20. St. Elsewhere

I don't watch much TV. So my list is rather short:
- Doctor Who
- Battlestar Galactica
- Supernatural
- House

^ I would watch the 3rd season of Californication, I think it was the best yet ;).

The trailer sure hooked me, but I'm waiting for the DVD, as I am for season four of Dexter.

Season four of Dexter completely made me forgive them for the subpar season three.

Anyways, I'm not watching much TV these days, but here are my picks for the best of 2009:

Battlestar Galactica
Dexter
Friday Night Lights
Lost
True Blood

I feel unfair ranking Doctor Who when it only aired what four episodes the entire year? Oh yeah forgot about BSG ending.

BSG.
Torchwood children of the earth.
Stargate Atlantis.
Dexter.
Dollhouse.
The big bang theory.
House.

1. Lost
2. Dexter
3. True Blood
4. Curb Your Enthusiasm
5. How I Met Your Mother
6. The Big Bang Theory
7. Chuck
8. Fringe
9. Glee
10. Criminal Minds
11. CSI

My favorite show of 2009 was Harper's Island, the 13-hour murder mystery that aired on CBS during the summer. I loved the fresh-faced young cast, the locations and the gruesome violence.

You didn't mind how boring some of the actors were and how grossly nonsensical the plot was? But I admit, I did come back for the final stretch of episodes. It got a lot better once they killed off a lot of the more minimally talented cast members. The final episode featured some stellar acting that almost made up for the writing, which by then had collapsed into total nonsense.

My ratings. #1 and #2 are a virtual tie, I just flip flop between them. The top ten or so are shows I regard as very good and the rest are good enough to watch; I'm surprised at how many well made, very entertaining shows there are, once you really list them out.

1. Dexter
2. Lost
3. Breaking Bad
4. Big Love
5. Entourage
6. Sons of Anarchy
7. Archer
8. Curb Your Enthusiasm
9. Caprica
10. Chuck
11. The Tudors
12. BSG
13. V
14. 24
15. Flash Forward
16. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
17. Harper's Island
18.
Heroes
