Avatar contest: "Acts of Sacrifice"

Acts of Sacrifice - as in more than just a single frame of a character you consider who sacrificed themselves. It could be objects used in such and act, animations of the act, etc. Any level of sacrifice as well, whether it be small or great.

Try to enter something animated if possible, something with a little more verve and creativity.

Poll will be posted Sunday evening, to give you time for creating that extra something special

No, don't let that stop you. Maybe add some creative text, a quote, etc. Plus there are several people who could help animate something for you.

I often do, because to me they require a little more challenge and expertise. After all, this is an avatar contest, not a display of our favorite shows, films, characters, actors, etc. contest. I tend to focus upon the technique that goes into an entry

Animated? Well, that ain't gonna happen. I've never made an animated avatar in my life... I just wouldn't know how. So I'm going to stick with a plain old still picture, sorry.

Fair enough it's just my own view on it.
Which is basically I think of an av as a single 140x140 (or less) image. And in that one has the chance to capture a whole feeling, mood, topic, etc in just a small single picture/frame. And the avs that do that best for me I'll vote for.

Now I don't like animated avs for a start as I find them distracting whilst I'm trying to read someone's post. But in an av contest it seems to me a way of cheating, putting multiple, if not dozens of images down to get a mood/feeling of the topic, when it can be done in just one. I mean sometimes I see some people's animated avs and think "Jeez, why not just put the whole movie/episode in it while you're at it"
