I feel a bit guilty about entering it, though, seeing as I didn't do it. I could never pull off animation like that. Still, if everyone's okay with me entering someone else's work, I'll graciously accept this.
There's nothing to worry about. The idea for the avatar was yours and yours alone. People frequently have others help in some way. Besides, the theme for this week's contest was my idea, and I'd say it's cool for you to enter it. Someday you'll be in a position to help someone else out, so just pay it forward.Wow, that's great!
Incidentally, all you need for basic animation is a freeware program like Microsoft GIF Animator. It's very rudimentary but it is easy to use and free is always good.

I distinctly remember making an animated av for someone that won and thoroughly thrashed mine that week
... in a way it felt like partial credit!
