This was EXCELLENT without question 
. It's probably their best season premiere to date, and with it also being their last, that's not a bad thing. All kinds of cans of worms are now opened, and every single one of them is intriguing/awesome. Terry O'Quinn ruled pretty heavily in this one, too. Sad to see Juliet actually dead, I really wasn't expecting that. Charlie, Boone, Arzt, Frogurt, Claire, etc...epic. I love this show!!!!

Excellent two parter. Despite all the revelations I have to say that the conversation between Jack and Locke is what I will remember most. Such a great scene.

I have a feeling that blowing up the atomic bomb really fucked up the universe, and somehow by the end of the season things will be set right.
Whatever "right" is, I don't know.

My head is spinning, but in a brilliant, typically Lost kind of way. 
I figured that we might be having an alternate timeline this year, but I only thought that it would the 'reset' timeline and the NotLocke one. I didn't think that the one in Dharmaville would continue to exist too. Just getting my head around that had my barin falling out of my head several times.
The LA X timeline had me scratching my head - why was Desmond on the flight? Why had Shannon not left with Boone? Why is everyone's hair, facial hair and weight all different? Okay, that last one isn't so important. It was brilliant seeing Charlie, Boone, Artz, Frogurt and everyone again. Is it the last time we'll see these guys?
Sun and Jin are back together! Sort of. But they're an awkward couple again. I just wanted Sun to sort out the misunderstanding and take a hit for Jin.
It was fun seeing Kate as a convict again, which I thought I'd never say. Her jumping into Clair's taxi was a great moment. It seems like everyone is bumping into each other even though they haven't crashed on the island. Jack and Locke had a very nice scene together near the end which I really loved. I agree that LA X must be some sort of reference to the strange new timeline we have. Perhaps landing in LA is a bad thing?
Juliet lives! I yelled! And then she died. Poor, poor Sawyer. Such a sad scene.

So NotLocke is the smoke monster. That had already been worked out, when NotLocke vanished when he went to find Smokey with Ben. It was great seeing it all in play though. NotLocke has suddenly become a lot more menacing, killing all those bodyguards and then kicking the crap out of Richard.

They're not in 1977 anymore. They're in the present.
When the bomb went off, everyone was sent back to 2007, as evidenced by the Swan debris where the construction site was.
This episode literally gave me a headache, but I'm giving it an excellent. It might be the best season premier ever (and I thought nothing would beat the pilot). They didn't drag their feet at all. They just dove right in, upped the stakes, upped the WTF, and answered some questions that needed answering. Great all around.
EDIT: BTW, I'm not entirely convinced the man in black is also Christian. I do agree he is Locke, Alex, Yemi, and the smoke monster, but I'm not sure about Christian. At the very least, there's the issue of the ash ring that keeps the smoke monster out. That means Christian couldn't have entered the cabin like he did.

but seriously I don't think we are dealing with two timelines at least not in the classical sense. I think another poster said it earlier in that one timeline is what will happen and the other timeline is what has happened and via that Timeline we learn why and how the island was sunk. Then how our heros got back to the plane with no memory.So here is my prediction for this season. While I am fairly confident that sinking the island accomplishes this goal my guess is that Jacob & The Avatar will simply start again somewhere else, lol.

I was feeling throughout the episode that the new timeline is the one the show could well end in. There's a season to wrap up all the new plot that's opened there...
I was wondering at one point whether the alternate timeline would result in the Losties getting back to the island (again). But the more I think of the logistics, the more I think the present day timeline would also have to be an alternate one.

I didn't catch onto a bunch of things: Bernard's laundry joke, Juliet's dying words, etc. until I saw the HD version tonight. Stupid sirens.

I was one of the people who thought we were going to see both timelines but it was still great. I think the implication is that Jack's bomb may have SANK THE ENTIRE ISLAND (!!!). think about that... he might have KILLED EVERYONE ON THE ISLAND!
It worked and spawned a new timeline in which they never crashed... but this timeline keeps going as well. It's the Star Trek theory in which timelines run parallel.
I also like the theory that at the end of this season they really will change things somehow and the LAX scenes are flash-forwards.
Terry O'Quinn was phenomenal as The Man in Black (I assume).
To Richard: "It's good to see you out of those chains"
Coupled with the reveal that the statue is actually Taweret... I think we can infer that all of these characters come from Ancient Egypt. Man in Black/Smokey and Jacob are probably Egyptian Gods, Richard was probably one of his slaves. Considering the Egyptian iconography all throughout the series, I think it fits as a unifying answer.
