Never. Star Trek is about lens flares, explosions and shaky cameras now, not stories, drama and characters![]()
so true. even within the star trek shows, it was second to voyager.Babylon 5 surpassed it while it was airing and before DS9 even ended. LOST surpassed it already. NuBSG is about equal to it (which isn't saying much). Firefly was already equal to DS9 when it was on, and if it had lasted it would've surpassed it. That's just sci-fi TV alone.
DS9 was hardly some Godsend.

I'm not even sure how anyone can say DS9 was the greatest of the Trek's. Sure, it became a great show towards the end once the Dominion War started, but earlier? Seasons 1-4 were so dull and unimaginative.
No doubt Voyager had its own flaws, like every show does, but at least every episode in Voyager was a 'Trek' into the unknown.
Enterprise was great to watch too: Excellent characters, strong story arc's etc.
Earlier it was a great, imaginative, but different show.s

Abram's stuff often starts good, then gets weird and wonky... I think there are shows already that have or could've topped DS9- Firefly for instance. And on the whole I really liked Stargate... but if you want to look to the future, there should be something this decade.
You mean episodes like singing Bozo the clowns, Q dropping by to be a petty annoyace, and holodeck soap operas?![]()
That's what I think of when I think of Voyager.
Very rarely did Voyager ever do anything new, and even worse, the rehashed stuff was not even entertaining, nor was it about Trekking. Voyager would have been a great show if it was about being imaginative and Trekking into the unknown.
In fact, one of Voyager's very best episodes is exactly about that: "The Void". Voyager should have been 176 episodes similar to "The Void" - then it surely would have been the best Trek show. Tragically, 99% of the series is nothing at all like "The Void."
The only Trek show that was really about Trekking into the unknown was TOS. DS9 is the closest second in terms of Trekking into the unknown: it had far more originality and less-regurgitated, Trekking-irrelevant plots (which the other modern Trek shows had in spades, despite the official premises stating otherwise).
Even though DS9's first 2 Seasons were not great on the whole, at least they implemented some character and plot development into them
As for those saying Lost beats DS9, I totaly disagree. I've watched a few episodes of Lost and all I saw was banal babbling. Never has the Sheliak quotation about human babbling been more apt than as it applies to the show Lost.
Definitely don't agree that Babylon 5 or Firefly surpassed DS9.
Anwar
You should know by now not to come here with your DS9-hating ways.

Voyager was very much a trek into the very well known, boldly going where every previous Trek show had gone before, only in a duller and less compelling way, and cowardly refusing to go into some other places where some other Trek shows (notably DS9) had gone before - i.e. into character development, continuity, complexity, or anything even remotely original or risky.I'm not even sure how anyone can say DS9 was the greatest of the Trek's. Sure, it became a great show towards the end once the Dominion War started, but earlier? Seasons 1-4 were so dull and unimaginative.

There's no law that says that Trek must be a "Trek into the unknown." IMO, the franchise was at its best when it wasn't a trek into unknown space.

I think that season 2 was already very good on the whole (even with a few lame episodes, mostly mid-season, but what Trek show/season didn't have those?).Granted, DS9 does have it's share of bad episodes, and the first 2 Seasons are not exceptional (excepting a few amazing episodes within them). I'd say though that DS9 got really good on the whole in S3 rather than S4 like you have stated.
Um... you might want to watch a bit more than "a few" episodes of Lost to make a judgment. Until you do, I can't take your opinion seriously, just like I can't take anyone's judgment of a show (especially a heavily serialized series like Lost) based on "a few episodes".As for those saying Lost beats DS9, I totaly disagree. nuBSG certainly didn't, that's like a worse and much more vulgar version of Voyager's holodeck soap opera episodes.
