The Russian mob stuff is pretty good, one of the better "bad guy plots" we've had. The stuff with Red was powerful, but they need to pick up the pace on this story, we need to get to either the next "phase" of the "day" or something needs to happen. The plot is moving pretty slow, Jack's spent the bulk of the last two episodes sitting in a car for crying outloud!

Average episode, it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. It was just a perfect filler episode. I guess the next three or four episodes will be better -February being sweeps and all.

But they really need to drop the Starbuck nonsense and with the other dude in the van it seems they're not planning on it. Sigh.
 
Mixed on this one. Annie Wersching continues to do knockout work, Cole the Sniper was awesome, and I'm digging the Russian mob family drama but the main story just doesn't have anything.
 
I can see why people are bothered, while it is all new to me, wtf? This is like the second or third episode where Jack has done...nothing. I mean, come on, isn't the show supposed to be about him?

At least their consistent with the CTU boss, he's still a dumbass.
 
Last week I said we're heading towards Season 6 territory, and this week continues that trend. Maybe I've been such enthralled with Babylon 5 lately (Finished season 4 tonight, yay me ;) ) that I actually wasn't looking forward to this episode. There are some good bits, like Renee, but they are few and far between. I'm getting a little drawn out by this whole storyline. Hell, everyone whispers that I don't even know who is who, at least for all the Russians and stuff like that. Oh, and this is the second episode where Jack hasn't done much, even though the sniper bit at the end was nice. Still, last week I was generous. This week I'm not.

Can I ask someone a favor? Without all the stupid nicknames who are these people. I mean the family, Hassan's aid/family, and the guy who played Leoban and his associates. I feel so drawn out of everything that ever since Cole flipped the car and the season had the first direction change, I'm starting to feel a tad bit lost.

The Starbuck storyline continues to be a waste of airtime. The rest was interesting, but nothing amazing.
 
I'm still puzzled by Renee Walker's downward spiral between Days 7 and 8. I don't understand the depression and suicidal tendencies that have manifested since she left the FBI. However terrible her experiences were when she was undercover with the Russian mob, she emerged in one piece (apparently) and went on to do good work in the FBI (see last season). Why couldn't she cope as a civilian?

On another topic, I found it amazing that Dana Walsh's scumbug ex-boyfriend was able to drive up to CTU as though it was a supermarket. What kind of gate security do they have?
 
Love the Dark City glasses on Jack. Other than that...uh, not much terribly exciting happened. Dana Walsh's subplot is obviously competely useless and the most I'm hoping there is that her bank heist scheme manages to be mildly exciting, and then they move on from there. The Not-Iranian President is going down a dark path, which might be the only interesting thing that happened, I suppose, though it was ever brief.

Eh, I don't mind Jack not doing everything. He acted well, his scene on the rooftop was decent and referenced his time in Germany/Eastern bloc (which triggered the events of Season 1 & 2, I think?) Why else would he want to learn German?

Annie is of course awesome and I wanted to climb into the tv and strangle Vlad, but alas, I'll have to wait for her or Jack to do it when the season direction shifts again.

And people complain when Jack teleoprts across cities to this or that location and miraculously saves the day in the nick of time yet again, then, when he actually has to take time drving somewhere and set up an op for a couple episodes, everyone's all "It's too slow and boring!" "Less talk and emotion ! More murder!" Make up your minds, people.

The Starbuck sideplot is poison, though. Shaggy, Scooby and the Mystery Van are so fucking retarded, I die a little inside whenever they suck up airtime.

I predict they will attempt their break-in with Starbuck on comms, Walking Sexual Harassment Lawsuit will fuck things up somehow and Shaggy will end up shooting some warehouse cop/guard, forcing Starbuck into panic/coverup/guilt-ridden angsty overdrive. Chloe will then intervene snarkily on her behalf. Ugh.

We all accept and know why the travel times in this series is fucked -and that's also why we have B-Plots, to cover up those travel times- in all reality driving almost anywhere in LA, DC or NYC should take the better part of an hour but it's not good TV so, yeah, the travel times have to be fudged.

So in a series where Agent Donnie Crane teleports between CTU and the UN inside of a commercial break and where Chloe once (in S4) got called into work, got dressed, and then appeared at work in 8 minutes then, yeah, I'm going to gripe when Jack spends the better part of three episodes sitting in a car.

The one thing that puzzles me with Renee Walker is why she decided to take a shower yesterday. Seriously, she's dealing with a guy who tried to rape her in the past and who is outside the bathroom. Even with the door lock, is is really a good idea to be taking your clothes off when you're within twenty yards of this guy?

One other thing...if Cole and Dana survive Day 8, I hope Cole isn't dumb enough to forgive Dana and insist that they still get married. Her behavior this season doesn't even warrent being given a second chance.

Am I the only one just finding it hard to care about this season? I dragged myself through this episode on the off-chance that I would start to get interested, but it just did not happen.

I LOATHE the Dana/Jenny storyline, and a lot of it has to do with Katee Sackoff. She is so DULL. And, I don't know, there's something about her eyes, and her deliberate diction, that just really put me off. Add to that the thoroughly lame swiss cheese plotline of hers and I want to throw things at the screen whenever she appears. Why did we need her again? Oh right, she's a blonde beauty from a recently-ended franchise that might bring in a few extra viewers. No thank you.

Don't even get me started on the new head of CTU. Not to mention Arlo I-Want-You-To-Sue-Me-For-Sexual-Harrassment. *shudder*

We barely see the characters we actually care about in favor of the newbies who are getting horrible stories. Chloe gets one good line tonight, and Jack barely does anything.

I haven't trashed my Hulu subscription yet, but if next week doesn't improve, I probably will.
 
^No you're not the only one who just doesn't seem to care. I pretty much said the same thing last night. Hell, I'm still wondering who these people are.

The worst teleport was either season 4 or season 5, whichever one had Jack capturing Henry Ian Cusick's information broker (Stana Katic) at the airport. They ended the episode at the airport, and starting the next episode entering CTU.

In Season 1's first episode Jack drives into CTU within a few minutes, several hours later it takes Tony around 20 minutes to make the same drive between CTU and Jack's house when goes (or comes back from?) saving Teri.
