I can't believe there are really people that get upset about this. Of all the things to get outraged over, this is it? Aren't there things worth worrying over? Iraq, Afghanistan, the economic crisis, the unjust global economy, people dying of easily treatable diseases by the thousands each day and this is what you choose to get enraged about?

Because the USA is a democracy, and its leader a representative of the people elected by the people from the people. Thus he is not your master, superior or king, he is one of you. First among equals, ideally. So he shows respect for his fellows, and his way of doing it seems to be bowing. Do you want a leader to act all superior and "better", and refuse to "lower" himself to the level of the people?
