O'Brien out, Leno back in?

Kimmel probably just realizes that the proper, cool, "hip" attitude lately is to be anti-Leno. He's jumping on the anti-Leno bandwagon, nothing more. Following the trend - the fad, as it were.
Comedians seem really conscious about comedic "territory" whether it's a routine or a show so it's no surprise practically every comedian and their dog sided with Conan.

The battle lines were drawn long ago. Conan must have already had a lot of friends anyway. Somebody decided that he was to be the blameless golden boy, the put-upon oppressed victim, and that Leno was the evil dictator son-of-a-bitch. Others fell right into line after that. They're following the crowd. They're saving their own careers by picking the "right side".

Kimmel has been bashing Leno on the Stern show since he got the JKL gig, Dave has been bashing leno since they were both up for the tonight show gig. The only real "opportunist" would be Ferguson and he's pretty much said as much.

^ Really? If any of this had gone differently, would Ferguson have gotten a shot at Tonight? (personally I don't think he should get it. As much as I love his comedy, his style is a better fit for his own show.)

Or, you know, it's true. I was a big fan of Conan and Leno before this whole thing began. Now, I couldn't care any less for Leno and Conan is pure awesome and win, in my opinion. Jay Leno showed himself for what he was. Conan comes through this clean because we've all been where he is, and we've all had the opportunistic co-worker who sells everyone else out to get what he wants.

As for other comedians, they had no stake in this, but it seems most of them felt that Conan was getting the short end of the stick, and joined together in support of him. I support Conan because I find him to be a genuinely funny man, who treats others very well, is good to his word, and is still a down to earth, straightforward comedian. Jay Leno possesses none of these things, and I never realized it until this whole debacle began just how greedy and selfish he is.

I doubt Ferguson would even want to host The Tonight Show anyway. It doesn't seem his style.

Yeah, Ferguson would definitely pass on The Tonight Show.

Emphasis mine. I wonder why that might be?

And how are ANY of them "saving" their own careers? Letterman is doing just fine, as is Ferguson and Kimmel. Letterman and Ferguson are on contract with CBS for a few more years...I don't know about Kimmel.

The only one who didn't really say anything was Fallon, and it probably wouldn't have helped his career to speak out...either way.

So, I don't know why you are proposing they are "falling in line" other than you disagree with their opinions of Leno, so you must subscribe it to group think.

Jealousy? Of Leno, specifically.

:wtf:

Edited to add: Ah, now that you've edited for clarity. I'm gonna go with TheBrew on this...it's not how friendships are formed...and for some reason, I don't see Letterman forming a friendship with anyone based on jealousy....I don't see Letterman forming friendships really.

Yeah, I think the simplest answer just might be that Conan might be more respected by his fellow Late Night hosts than Leno...

Yes, because jealousy is how friendships are formed.

Erm, wouldn't they be jealous of Conan, not Leno? Or, failing that, of both of them?

I'm just putting forth my view that Conan's supporters are simply disappointed that he doesn't have Tonight anymore. I suggest that they don't care *why* he doesn't have it, or how he came to lose it. They want him to have the show, and will accept no substitutes. They're jealous of Leno because he got the show back, and thus have conspired to paint Leno as the villain - where, IMHO, he doesn't deserve that.

Did I just jump the gun? Probably. But now all of you know how I feel when you paint Leno as some kind of Antichrist or something. Perhaps NBC was too quick to give Leno the show back. But it's strictly business. Things like that happen. I'd wager this isn't the first time that shows have been won and lost for flimsy reasons. It's happened before, and will happen again. Doesn't make it right, but it's just how it works.

No one is jealous Leno got the show, they are pissed that Leno and NBC screwed over Conan because LENO's 10pm show...LENO's show, was the failure, yet decided to dump Conan before he had a chance to develop his own audience.

Plus you know, Leno is not funny. While Conan is. The only funny thing Leno ever has done was his damn headlines book, and it wasn't funny because of him.

AND Leno and NBC have tried to spin this as Conan's fault.

Leno's "Don't blame Conan" line is pure and utter spin.

And Letterman put it, "No one's blaming Conan!"

Leno is just a douche, pure and simple. I've said it before and I'll say it again: He went back on his word and screwed over a colleague whose turn in the Sun he'd agreed it should be, and that makes him a douche. Period.

Wow... do you frequently let Jeff Zucker access your TrekBBS account? :p

Seriously, I'm amazed at the amount of spinning and backpedaling you're doing to try and make Leno look like the innocent just because you like him best. You obviously missed your calling... Washington, D.C. needs you. :techman:

That too. I mean Letterman isn't my favorite either (I think he gets too political sometimes, on a show where I don't think it's appropriate), however he has been fucking hilarious, as have many late night hosts, during the incident.

The only one who sucks is Leno...

What exactly did Conan do besides turn down the "deal" that basically cuckolded him, his crew, and the prestige of the Tonight Show?
