Updated 2010 Schedule

Huh, I wonder why there's nothing for May? Unless they have yet to decide what to release in may.

Huh, I wonder why there's nothing for May? Unless they have yet to decide what to release in may.

Because 4 books were canceled at the last minute and they couldn't crank out a book fast enough? Yeah, that's probably it...

Although, I'd be somewhat worried if the book went in a wholly different direction - say, if this book had Marcus' early Genesis research have no connection to the Shedai or the Taurus Meta-Genome, for example - and thus had some sort of knock-on effect on future Vanguard books, or would require some sort of retcon to make fit.

But Inception takes place in 2261, four years before Vanguard begins. At the time, the Shedai and the Meta-Genome wouldn't even have been discovered yet. So if anything, it would be more of a continuity error if the book did reference anything from VNG.

The impression I got from Vanguard is that the idea of the Genesis project only firmly established itself for Marcus once she was exposed to the Shedai legacy in the Taurus Reach - that the implications of what the Meta-Genome represented would have led to her efforts to create new ecosystems.

Now, if it turns out that the concept was floating around in Carol's mind long before she got to Starbase 47, fair enough - but I would be somewhat less satisfied if, after emphasising how important the Shedai legacy was to her work in the Vanguard books, that it turns out Project Genesis would have been just fine without the Meta-Genome, after all.

But that doesn't mean she wasn't interested in terraforming before. Terraforming doesn't automatically equal Genesis. Looking through her debut scene in Vanguard, she's almost immediately talking about the potential of the Meta-Genome for reshaping planets, and the fact that she jumps to that so quickly tells me that she already had a pre-existing interest in the subject of terraforming.

It's not surprising her fans aren't aware she wrote a TNG novel. She's essentially disowned the book.

Laurell K Hamilton in Jeff Ayers' "Voyages of Imagination":

"I'd told my then-management to keep me in mind if an opening came up to write a 'Trek' novel. Another writer dropped the deadline and I picked up their slot. Mystery plots are easier for me at short notice. I loved playing with the characters. Some writers complained at the restrictions of writing 'Star Trek', but I found it a pleasant and professional experience. I knew going in, it was their playground and their toys. I knew the world well enough to play by those rules." (p 178, 2006)

She is described as a "best-selling author of several novels that combine vampies, mystery and romance."

I always wondered what would have happened if David hadn't put a certain ingredient into the Genesis device.

Carol Marcus or Ming Xiong or someone probably figured out how to unravel the meta-genome which led Marcus to develop the genesis device since the genome is known to reorder matter at the molecular level, and the genesis device does it on a much larger scale.

And no, the MyrU anthology was not on the schedule, having been backburnered continually.
It was indeed on the schedule, although its position on the schedule was changed. It was initially announced for November '09, then bumped to summer '10. Now it's scheduled for November '10. So far from being unscheduled and put in now to fill the summer gap, it's actually been bumped out of the summer and delayed until the winter. That's not a consequence of the Abramsverse delays. It's presumably a consequence of the prior editorial upheavals at Pocket.
Indeed, the scheduling of Shattered Light precedes this whole mess-- we got word it was scheduled for December (so it's shifted by a month, or these dates are off as has been suggested) back in November.

Wasn't there a new TNF trade pb on the schedule for this year? All I see is the re-print of Treason.

That one was rescheduled to January 2011 way before the whole New Timeline novel mess occurred. According to Amazon it's called Resolutions.

There are some on the list I have in mind on getting, they are:

Iception (ordered yesterday on amazon.com)
Childern of Kings (maybe)
The Unspoken Truth
The Needs of Many
Seven Deadly Sins(maybe)

Im unsure about the others, yet. Im not sure what Typon Pact is about. If the books are TOS related, I might.I love the TOS & TNG, but I'm mainly getting TOS books right now, because its my most favorite show and movies. And there seems to be a reprint of the novel of the 2009 movie. So I'm unsure about that one cause I already have the novel of the movie from last year.

So I guess that actually DOES mean that Typhon Pact has been delayed a month.

So far as I know, the official schedule was always Oct10-Jan11.

Well I have just had an email from Amazon saying Seize the Fire has been put back and my copy wont arrive till the start of december.

Might just be delayed getting to the UK and still come out at its original date in America, though when I ordered it it was listed as coming out in october.

well, this schedule kinda sucks. best opportunity to really sit down and enjoy a paperback is during the summer, at the beach or by the lake, and the schedule is either blank completely or just reprints between May and October. Some time off from Trek Lit, I guess...

You're trying to tell us you have no unread ST stockpile whatsoever, including all of the eBooks? And no titles you'd like the chance to reread?

exactly. For oldsters and johnny-come-back-latelys like me, this gives a chance to catch up. Sorta.
