Supposably and Expecially (excetera, excetera, excetera)

Saying ODDviously instead of obviously.

My mother-in-law uses 'says' for 'said'. And my father-in-law says 'done' for 'did'. I told my wife that I could sum up her parents with one sentence:

Mom: "That's what I says,"
Dad: "And that's what we done."

My mother-in-law also says 'Pat Rack' for 'Pack Rat'.

Mom: "So I says to Judy, 'He's such a Pat Rack!'"

^For some reason, I picture the Wheel of Fortune host subjected to medieval torture.

OH! That's another one: Teachers, how many times have you seen: "midevil" for "medieval"?

People in Oklahoma (my ex-wife is one of the BIGGEST offenders of this) who can't properly use pronouns:

"Do you know Diane? Well, her and I went to the store the other day..."

If you're getting an "I" out of your ex, you're doing well. Normally, you'll get:

Well, me and her went....

The whole phrase "it went missing" irritates my father.

How does an inanimate objection go somewhere and get lost?

We can't locate it. It's lost. Those aren't hard things to say.

Come to think of it, how do people go missing? Is that a plan?

"Where did you go this weekend?"

"I went missing."

"Did you have your cell phone with you to call for help?"

"No, it went missing."

"So what did you do?"

"I had this ideal. Firstable, I would axe any peoples I met for help. They might think me rediculous, cuz youse know hows peoples are."

Here's another one: "Hit and miss."

Well, if you liken the thing that's hitting and missing to a machine gun, it makes sense.

The whole phrase "it went missing" irritates my father.

Oh, in this household we have a few constructs for this concept: Grandpa: "It went into the black hole"
Me: "It's lost to the four winds"

Surely wrong on some levels, but fun to say.

My wife's new boss came down from the corporate office this week to address her department. She started her talk with, "What can I do to help 'youz guyses'?"

I got an e-mail from my state congressmen yesterday in which he referred to something as a "mute point."

People who do not know how to properly use the proper tenses of drink, drank, and drunk -- especially drank and drunk.

My dog got ran over.

It's not snobbery; I just can't help but picture a man jogging over a dog.

And, you know, the dog, like, goes, "woof".

(I think that sentence might have the highest comma to word ratio of all time)

Things like these irritate me to no end. I had an ex who would always say "would of" instead of "would have" in writing. She would also say "supposebly" and "irregardless." Other ones that I've heard:

For all intensive purposes
A whole 'nother
I could care less (this one is everywhere)

I could care less (this one is everywhere)

I've posted this little philosophy elsewhere so forgive me if you've already ready it.

I could care less is actually more honest and more accurate if you want to be pedantic. If you care enough about something to post a comment then you do care somewhat and could in fact care less. Stating that you could not care less about something when you actually could care less is a falsehood.

Per say instead of per se. :scream: Mute point instead of moot point. :scream: :scream:

Not a malapropism, but I am utterly sick of people starting every sentence with Absolutely! or Basically. Any time you turn on the news, someone being interviewed will say either about ten times.

I would like to add to Kira's Mom's statement, the following: "blah, blah, blah, I mean...blah, blah, blah, I mean, blah, blah, blah, and stuff, blah, blah, blah...

Also, those who use piece of mind in their written prose rather than the appropriate peace of mind.
