Hayden is an inch taller than Kristen (shockingly enough)--she's 5'2" to Kristen's 5'1". I checked. ;) I knew Hayden was short, but that picture pointed out how just short Kristen was. And yep, I noticed Kristen wears heals a lot, whereas Hayden's shortness is usually emphasized to make her seem very young.

Jack Coleman is only 6'2", so not really super tall... Just tall. ZQ is also 6'2". By "only", being from a tall family, I mean to say that these people are still smaller than my 6'4" dad (though he's shrunk to 6'3" now). I have a stronger reaction to people who are really, really short to ones who are of average size (to me). Jack and Zach are two of the only ones that seem "of average size" to me (my perceived average is skewed toward the tall side--as a 5'7" female, I was actually medium-sized among my friends--I'm convinced that height averages have really increased with my generation). Basically, in my eyes, all the men under 6'0" are the short ones!

You can imagine my awe when I saw one of Judy Garland's dresses at the Smithsonian. At 4'11 1/2"... That is short. Granted, there were a few Munchkins that weren't all that much shorter. She was probably the only costar Mickey Rooney was taller than (reminds me of the Andy Hardy scene where he jitterbugged with a 6'2" tall woman--LOL).

And yep, some of the best Sylar scenes are in the latter half of season 3. Definitely. He gained a lot of depth in that season; the most since we found out about his Gabriel side in season 1. But even his Sylar side gained depth here. I honestly don't get why people are saying the show is confusing. It's like if anyone gets more facets, it's suddenly convoluted and confusing. No, it's just called character growth; that's good writing, not bad. I'm not into completely stagnant characters. Stagnation is bad writing.

Granted, there are people who are convinced that Spock is completely without emotion and asexual in TOS. I've only seen perhaps half the series so far and I would definitely argue with that.

And I can't wait for Sylar to go through even more twists and turns. You really don't know which side he's going to end up on. He's in the dark, dark gray area... Not just pure evil. Gabriel Gray's last name should be a big, whopping clue of how the writers view him. Most of the characters on Heroes are in the gray area rather than white or black. I think a lot of people saw the title "Heroes" and thought that the show was going to be full of mostly good guys doing good things like Superman. I don't think that was ever the show's dramatic intention.

Jack Coleman may be listed as 6'2", but he's definitely taller than that. He looks taller than Zach in every picture and shot. Since Zach is 6'1" - 6'2" depending on website you're getting info from, Coleman has to be about 6'3".He must be one of the tall actors who are misrepresentiong their height.

^ Geez, both men look like giants in the middle picture! Maybe all the girls are wearing flats, but they look especially tall in that shot.

Two of those girls have to be under 5'0" tall! And the third (who is bending down a bit) is in the low 5'0" range.

Yep, Jack is definitely half an inch to an inch taller than Zach. Perhaps that Zach is 6'1" and Jack is 6'2" might be more accurate. They do often both dwarf most other people in scenes with them.

Star Trek definitely has a fairly tall cast in comparison the original TOS crew (Nimoy aside). Nimoy's age probably has shrunk him about an inch, so that would explain the 1"+ height difference with him and Zach. Nimoy used to be 6'1". If he's 6'0" now, Zach could be 6'1". The difference did kinda seem more than that, though. This might support that Zach is 6'2" and Jack is 6'3" after all.

This is a minimum of 2":

He never seemed emotionless or asexual to me. But I suppose people just see what they want to see. Some people just like their characters one-dimensional, and as I've learned, they will stubbornly refuse to acknowledge anything that interferes with their image of, for instance, a 100% logical, asexual and emotionless Spock. Even when faced with many instances in shows and movies in which Nimoy's acting or the script itself subtly or even obviously showed a whole range of Spock's emotions, or moments in which he was clearly showing interest in women, they will always come up with some far-fetched explanation to deny it, or they will just ignore it.

Someone actually complained on IMDG Heroes board that none of the characters are 'heroes' as in, brave good people performing heroic deeds. I pointed out that the original meaning of the word was different from the popular meaning we usually attach to the word 'hero' these days, especially when referring to real life "heroes". In ancient Greece, a hero was a person with exceptional power and abilities beyond that of an ordinary human, something less than a god, but more than a man; but a "hero" was not necessarily good, noble, or selfless: in fact, many of the legendary heroes, like Achilles, were portrayed as egotistical, volatile, selfish jerks. (Gods weren't any better, so why would heroes?) This meaning of a person of exceptional powers beyond that of most humans, is still present today in the term "superhero" and in comic book world. Some of the modern superheroes are actually as ambiguous as the ancient heroes were, and lines between heroes and villains can get a little blurred. Heroes certainly does that a lot, which is one of the things I like the best about the show.

That said, I still think that the show is stronger in acting than in writing. From what I've heard, Heroes writing room seems to be a mess, and fact is that writers come and go all the time, storylines get changed and abandoned, and there is little contunuity between volumes. Volume 3 wasn't that bad in character development area - actually, it whad great moments in that respect - but the plot itself became a real mess, the writers seemed to get lost in time-travel, alternate futures, changing explanations of powers, and the changes in actual characters' powers... and then in volume 4 they just abandoned almost all of the plots they had introduced, and tried to ignore them, which is very grating. But the most annoying thing is the way they keep killing off or sidelining supporting characters without actually bothering to make their storylines work, while at the same time endlessly resurrecting the core characters after who knows who many fake deaths.

And yet, Joss Whedon still outdoes every writer out there for how many times he has killed his characters and resurrected them (he's known for it). From that standpoint, Heroes pales next to his resurrections. Darla's 4 deaths, anyone? Followed by a return as a ghost? I might be a little blasée about fantasy deaths and characters returning after that. It comes with the fantasy genre territory.

Yes, the abruptly shortened season 2 is where most of the problems with time-travel (Hiro's arc making sense, but being absolutely boring) and forgotten storylines occurred (Caitlin). I don't mind the character death, though (and I liked Eden, Ted, Isaac, Meredith, Daphne, Elle, etc...). As I said, Sylar, the Bennets and the Petrellis are the core of the drama. If you didn't kill likable characters, nobody would care about those who did die. You sometimes have to kill extraneous likable characters for the sake of drama. The difference is between 'extraneous, but lovable' and 'crucial to the series-long storyline'.

A lot of people just wanted a bunch of constantly replaced heroes performing good deeds. The people who hate Sylar either hate him because he killed a lot of people's favorite characters (I've certainly picked that up--particularly from Veronica Mars/Kristen Bell fans who refused to watch the rest of season 3 after that, when her death DOES make sense and is part of why he is so set on Claire now--the one he can never hurt like how his real father killed his real mother) or because they don't like the "villain"/antagonist being a gray-area main character as much as the titular heroes who are turning all gray themselves (basically they wanted a superhero anthology with shiny white knights with interchangeable, unambiguous, pure-black villains that come and go). And Noah and Angela never pretend to be heroes either.

Granted, I'm a season 3 lover.

Spock is cool and Kirk is captain, but McCoy is SEXY.

I'm coming into this very late (in fact, late into this BBS - this is my second post), but to answer rgb1701, Ross Martin as Artemus Gordon is my choice. I like Jim, and he's more conventionally goodlooking, but I am totally turned on by brains combined with wit and charm.

Also, I love the camera shakes and lens flares, and seeing the good doctor in Star Fleet underwear is now my favorite fantasy.

I'm on the "older" side of this - I'm 57. In the 60s, I worshipped Spock. This year, I have rewatched TOS and found myself with a much deeper appreciation of the charm that was De Kelley as McCoy. And then, I saw the movie.... and now McCoy is to die for. If they don't solidify the trio in the next movie, and let McCoy show that humanistic side that adds the important third leg to the Kirk/Spock relationship, I will be hugely disappointed.

Now I'm off to find the Karl Urban thread!

I so need a signature and avatar...

This was a hard choice because I couldnt choose between the three. So I decied to vote as cant choose. And I cant because all three are so great, besides being hot! I just love all three of them in my own special way. I have special place for Spock/Zach because after all, I ment him! And I also have a special place for the other two as well. So I just have to say, I love them all!

It doesn't matter how many times you people do this poll. The correct answer, now and forever, is always SPOCK! :bolian:

Huh, this is an old thread, how'd I miss it the first time around?

HELLLOOO... I think I just found my long lost twin! :techman: Well, except we're about 7 years and probably over a 1,000 miles apart... ;) I pretty much had the exact same experience with TOS and the NuTrek.

Huh, this is an old thread, how'd I miss it the first time around?
Yeah, I missed it too, but looking at the "original" last post date, it was before I joined in July of last year - must have been off of page 1.

Yes ma'am, indeed! I'm a Spock loyalist all the way, whether it's the Nimoy or Quinto version.

Welcome, Dragonfare! If it's McCoy/Urban fangirling you seek, I'm sure his thread will be a happy haven for you.

Bones, every time. He's lovely, skilled, and that accent... Mmm.
I've seen a few episodes with De Kelley as Bones, and I love him back then too.
Plus, Karl Urban is just adorable- not to mention, funny.

KittyDuran, share! I'd love to have a twin!

Tribbles, thank you so much for the welcome. I'm afraid I'm a little ahead of you, however. I've already spent HOURS in the Urban thread, reading and downloading and generally having fangirlish squeals. (Yes, you can be 57 years old and still be a fangirl. I insist on it.)
