Another tall person here (5'7"), though not as tall as you! Yeah, if I put on tall shoes, I end up around 5'9"-5'10", which means I'd do best with someone 6'0"+.

I actually just found a picture of Quinto and Kristen Bell walking together. Apparently she's only 5'1". Good GOD! She's BELOW his shoulder. She must have to stand on an apple crate in all of her scenes with him, because the height difference never seemed that bad on screen. I just found the height difference in the picture kind of shocking.

He's definitely on the tall side in almost all pictures with other actors (which, admittedly, are often short). Though ST '09's cast is noticeably taller than almost all of the original cast members. The biggest change is probably from Shatner (short) to Pine (tall).

Well, I thought I'd give favorite acting moments for the main hunks:

ZQ / Spock - arm stretched out and the look of utter disbelief/unexpressed pain and just kind of looking around lost + the turbolift (stiff with pain shown only in the eyes, but holding it in + does the 'lost little boy' lanky Nimoy-esque elbow walk).

CP / Kirk - the irreverent apple-eating behavior during the Kobayashi Maru + goading Spock by bringing up his mother (one of the more serious scenes in the film for him--the choking had some good facial expressions) + learning Nyota's name and the reacting to finding out about Spock/Uhura (the disbelief and nod faces are cute).

KU / McCoy - the blood boiling speech + any scene with insults at Spock + Kentucky Derby dialog.

I think Chris's best acting in the film came after Spock released him from the mind meld. He made his eyes, face and mouth swollen to appear that he had, in fact, had an emotional transference, as Spock said. And then he asks Spock about his father.

That was a good one, too, though overshadowed by Nimoy. You're right, actually. The gasping and asking about his father is probably his most personal scene in the film.

I guess a lot of his scenes sort of got overshadowed a bit by some of the smart-*ss behavior for me. The first thing that comes to mind during that Kirk-meets-Spock Prime scene is Kirk's "bullsh*t".

Overall, the chin-up nod at Uhura was my favorite facial expression by Pine. It makes me chuckle a little.

It'd probably be a good thing for balance's sake if Kirk got a more emotional focus in the second film.

I'd also like to see Urban get a chance at one of the more serious Kelley-like scenes regarding humanity.

Pine, Urban and Pegg got a lot of the comedy scenes. The two Spocks got the more emotional scenes. Yelchin got the failure-of-saving-Amanda moment of disbelief to balance out the accent humor. Saldaña got the show of tender affection moment in the turbolift. Greenwood definitely did best in his conversation with Nero.

Actually, I'm going to go with Kirk's look at the building of the Enterprise as his most defining moment in the film (and a serious one). Kind of the Trek version of Luke's binary sunset.

By the way, having just watched TMP, I finally got why McCoy was given facial hair at the beginning of the new film (Kelley's beard and reluctance to board the ship became Urban with facial hair and not liking the transporter).

It's funny. I have seen Urban in a lot of other things before ST2009, and I grew up on TOS with no blush-on for McCoy. And yet, when combined, as Paula Deen would say: GOODNESS GRACIOUS!! DUDN'T THAT LOOK TASTY?!

And so I went back to TOS episodes and watched a few... My, that Dr. McCoy certainly can be a charmer when he wants to! This is what I get for trading in for StarGate and Babylon5.... Surprise!!

...So now I'm back and gettin' my Trek on. Where's a sheep emote when you need one?

I'd say my second fave was Pike, all in all. Just a great character, all in all, and I couldn't help but wonder if he had a couple of pretty things awaiting him at various ports across the quadrant. ;D

Quinto's Spock was done very well, but my Heroes bias has me a bit too jarred to warm up to him for a movie-crush. I was alright until when he attacked Kirk, and I kept waiting to see a red line go across our dear Captain's forehead. *zrrrrp!*

I liked Kirk a lot, but in a buddy-sort. He was just too wreckless and girl-crazy for me to crush on.

If I had to pick a third, it'd probably be Scotty. He's witty and I bet he treats his women the same as he does engineering. I'd probably be keen on Sulu, too, except that we saw more of his fighting skills than anything else.

And well, Chekov is jailbait.

It's a tribute to how fab Urban and Quinto are that they make that cringeworthy Derby dialogue work. Classic Bones/Spock.

Anyone who knows anything about horses or horse racing would NEVER say "stallion" in referring to a race horse...they'd refer to a runner in the KY Derby as a "colt", cuz when they're "stallions" they're no longer racing at all but retired to stud duty (what a life). You'd never talk about "stallions" running in the Derby. And you wouldn't call it a "stable". It would've been more accurate to say you "wouldn't leave your best horse in the barn".

However.

The critter does have to be broken to reach its potential as a race horse - that is absolutely true, and I'm happy to hear they're still racing thoroughbred in the 24th century! But if they were looking for a souther fried/Kentucky aphorism from Bones they were off the mark with the rest.

I don't mind it so much because the actors do such a superb job of selling the scene. But knowing horses as well as I do, I find most movies get things wrong most of the time. Frex, I HATED The Black Stallion.

Seriously, there's an added bonus of hilarity in that scene if you have seen him on Heroes. Pretty much any time Quinto acts menacing is likely to have that effect (it took me a few months to get used to seeing Boreanaz on Bones in the sunlight--8 seasons of being shown in constant darkness does that).

Sylar's head-slicing with the red lines going across people's heads and the finger is probably the most iconic and well-known thing about any of ZQ's work (well, the fact that he does it in practically every episode he's in helps there). It perhaps helps that Sylar is a character that ZQ originated, whereas, with Spock, he's doing an interpretation (certainly with new facets) of an already-iconic character.

Sylar is basically the "magnificent bastard" archetype with a bit of a dual personality (he has an inner mama's boy geek). ZQ looks like he has a helluva fun time playing that role, too.

While LN's Spock is much more set in his ways (due to playing the character as already having found himself), is more infallible and hard-edged, ZQ's Spock, due to ZQ's best acting asset being his large eyes, puts an icy chill on the character at first, but shows a lot of pain in the eyes at certain crucial moments; this is a Spock who has not found himself yet and is still trying to balance his heritage.

The fact that ZQ couldn't fall back on his big swarthy eyebrows is kind of amusing (in photos/footage in and out of character he tends to use them a lot). And that factor does a lot to separate his Spock from Sylar, because it's one of the things both he and his Sylar character are most known for (hence the term "Sybrows"). ZQ's eyebrows are so much a part of his real-life image, whereas, while LN probably wished his pre-Spock eyebrows had grown back completely, has pretty much centered his career on being a Vulcan and sort of is Spock at this point as far as the world is concerned.

While LN has the deep, gravelly voice, ZQ brings eyes that can play a lot more non-verbal expression to the role. Each is appropriate to the portrayal of the version of the character that they are playing.

Strangely enough, I'm totally able to separate Sylar from Spock. I DETEST HATE LOATHE Sylar, because I feel like he should have been killed off in the last episode of the first season (of course, JMO--I know a lot of people love him; that's what makes horse races). And when I watched Heroes after that (I finally abandoned it around a third of the way into this season), I could frequently be heard muttering, "Why haven't they killed him off yet?" So I was afraid I wouldn't enjoy the movie because of him.

But to my utter surprise, I have never once thought of Sylar when I watch Spock--to me, ZQ IS Spock. Which I guess is a great testament to him as an actor.

And thus, you missed one of the best character turns of Sylar in the mid and latter part of the season (season 3 was GREAT! I don't get the naysayers at all unless your favorite character got offed or sidelined and you're just miffed, because they have gotten a lot more focused on the good parts of the story rather than the extraneous side-plots). Granted, I'm quite glad he'll be in the 4th season (and likely a big part of it--exciting stuff if you've seen the finale). Season 3 had probably the best Sylar stuff in it since the tail end of season 1. I personally view Sylar, the Bennets and Petrellis as the core of the show, though.

That scene might have been just a tiny bit amusing for those who have seen Heroes, but he definitely separates the characters VERY well. Obviously, they're nothing alike. At all. And his mannerisms are entirely different. Both are great characters in their own right.

Yes, he certainly could be a charmer. It's that southern charm he has.

I love TOS Dr McCoy and 09 McCoy. Both lovely men.

Urban though is hot, while De was adorable and sweet.

I find DeForest Kelley quite handsome! I'd actually say he's my favorite of the TOS cast. Well, him and Leonard Nimoy (of course). William Shatner had his moments (Spock's funeral in TWOK), but he was definitely outshone by Kelley and Nimoy.

Kristen seems to be wearing flats in that pic, while she usually had high heels on the show. That's why the height difference is even bigger in the pic, but it was always obvious on the show, too - he had to pull her head up in order to kiss her. There are lots of shorter people in Heroes (apart from Jack Coleman - HRG - who is really, really tall), which makes Zach look even taller. He looks huge next to Hayden (who might even be shorter than KB), or a small, skinny guy like Zeljko Ivanek.

I agree about season 3. The twists might have been too fast and it might have seemed like the writers had no clue what they were doing (and they probably did not ) but Zach got a chance to show different sides of Sylar's character - and he was amazing! I wasn't fond of season 2 because they made him too one-dimensional, he was basically just bad to the bone and that was it. The only good thing about his S2 storyline was that he looked really hot and he had a shirtless makeout scene!
