Gowron!!!

It's the eyes! It's all in those bugged out, blue eyes! Yeah, Gowron was a fun character. I love in Way of the Warrior when he says to Worf, "Although you may have made some enemiesssss . . . HA! I assure you! I am not ONE of them! HA!"

My favorite "Gowron Eye Bulge" is from House Of Quark, where they bulge from utter bafflement.

I finished rewatching Season 4 of TNG the other month and when I saw Gowron first appearance the first thing I thought to myself was as he was being introduced to Worf was that Worf was going to kill him in 10 years time.

We just watched that not to long ago too...was ironic indeed that Worf was the one to do it....But Gowron became a glory hound and it had to be done...

Do you think Gowron made it to Sto-vo-kor? He was an ass when he was alive, but he died in honorable combat with Worf (who even did the death howl afterward). I wonder if that was "enough" to redeem Gowron.

I think he made it to Sto-vo-kor:cool:
Hes got there and went like this:
" Yes...Yesssss..I made ittttt...To Sto-VO-KORRrrrrrr!":klingon:

That's a good question. We got a fair sampling of Klingon religion but it's reasonable to think there was plenty more to it that we never learned. And of course, it is also reasonable to assume that there is no actual such thing as Klingon religion, that individuals differ widely in their beliefs - just as we Humans do.

If you assume that what we saw was a reasonably accurate portrayal of Klingon religion in general and that that religion was mirrored in reality (StoVoKor really existed), it's still hard to say.

Gowron was dishonorable in many ways and he was more of a politician than a fighter but he had a Klingon heart. He personally went into battle on several occasions and he did not shirk from personal combat. He was no coward - unlike the pathetic Duras. My personal take is that Gowron makes it.

Rob

Exactly. And not only that, he also killed Duras. Worf has got to be the most famous Klingon in the empire... who hasn't he killed?

Thanks for the suggestion, RobertScorpio. I was thinking of some trek to watch this week, and I think a little DS9 Gowron episode selection will do the trick! :techman:

Nice one! :D

And for those of you discussing Gowron: The Muscial... you know somewhere in Trek there must exist many, many operas and stories about Gowron and Worf. There must be an entire Klingon caste dedicated to bringing honor to warriors through song. I wonder how much that pays?

We started watching the KLINGON ARC this week, starting with Sins of the Father...holds up quite well..

Would they sing in Klingon?

I think you guys may have something here!

It's just a jump to the left,
And a bat'leth to the right.
Put your hands on your gagh,
And make your baldric tight.
But it's the Klingon bloodwine
That really drives you in say-ay-ay-ay-ane...
Let's do the time WORF again!

:D

Diggin' the lyrics. Do you have a song in mind, in terms of music, to drive it home???

Yes! I just watched that one the other night and started cracking up. Loved O'Reilly's Gowron.

You've heard the original, haven't you?

...seems like as good a place as any for my first post here...hi Everybody...

I disliked Gowron as a person/character but did enjoy watching him. A Klingon slimeball...sorta. He had his moments, and he was definitely a true Klingon. To be honest, I didn't pay as much attention to him in DS9 as I did in his TNG appearances, probably because I was more involved in the other (regular) characters on DS9. The characters on TNG are great, but not as in-depth as DS9 in my opinion...anyways, my point is, Gowron was an interesting character because he wasn't as 'flat' or 'static' as some other recurring characters. And he was more cunning and devious than some other Klingons who deal with all their problems by smashing things. :D

We watched THE WAY OF THE WARRIOR this weekend. And even though Gowron is hardly in it, he really is fun to watch. Robert O'Reilly is really a hoot, especially with how he can make his eyes buldge out when he's making a point....

Late last night I went back and watched Reunion on my own. Who would have that little part in that episode would explode into what it became. And how ironic that of all people to be the cause of Gowron's ultimate fate it would have been Worf....

Kudos to Robert O'Reilly. A scene-eating, over-the top actor who really, for me, made a memorable character!!! GOWRON!!!

Rob

This is why I love watching old Trek. The characters are fun to come back to and watch :)
