Guy Richie moving forward with "Sherlock Holmes 2", leaves "Lobo"

Guy Richie vacates one directing gig and enters another. He was once attached to direct an adaptation of the comic-book property Lobo which is being produced by Joel Silver, who produced Sherlock Holmes, also directed by Richie, and will produce the film's sequel.

Well, it appears Richie will not direct Lobo and instead focus his directorial attention onto Sherlock Holmes 2. It has been rumored that WB wants to fast track the sequel after the first film has earned almost $200 million domestically at the box office, an impressive feat for a film that only cost $90 million.

Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and the rest of the cast is expected to return. Rumored release date is Christmas 2011.

I am very game for a Holmes sequel. I loved the first film and especially admired Downey Jr.'s performance. I can't wait to see what Richie & Downey Jr. do with a sequel.

I, too, am excited about a Sherlock Holmes 2, or SH2?, but I have to admit, I'm a little sad that I won't be seeing Ritchie's Lobo.

They should call the sequel "Sherlock Holmes In Time". We could have so much fun with the acronym.

But will this sequel have dinosaurs and Iron Man in it?

I loved Sherlock Holmes both for the grand rapport between Downey and Law and the actual detective work that goes on. Here's hoping the rumors of Brad Pitt playing (and has already voiced) Moriarty are true.

I'm excited for this news...loved Sherlock Holmes as well and glad to know that the sequel is being fast tracked and for next Christmas. I for one would have no problems with Brad Pitt playing Professor Moriarty, in fact I got quite excited at this possibility when I read it prior to the release of the movie. It probably won't happen.

Maybe that could be a new thread: name the Sherlock Holmes Sequel..and see who catches on

or perhaps an actual short story (listed in Wikipedia as one of Sir Arthur COnan Doyles favorites):
