Summer nuTrek novels pulled-TrekMovie.Com

And now we get two months of SCE reprints that are totally useless to those of us who already have the eBooks.

But those of you who already have the eBooks are a tiny percentage of the total audience. For most people, this is going to be new content. And it's lucky for Pocket that they have something to reprint that is going to be new content for most people, because otherwise they'd be in a worse fix.

A miniscule number of readers, many of whom are awaiting hardcopies anyway. The number is so miniscle, that Pocket canned its ST eBook program a few years ago.

I will be reading the SCE Omnibuses, for one. I am excited about them, actually. I am close to one of the greatest used book stores in the world, but even they don't have enough SCE books for me to read them in sequence.

How much would Pocket have to start charging for their books if they were printed on a nice quilted two-ply?

Okay, what about the folks who wait to buy the eBook compilations in eBook form?

You laugh, but I've seen my royalty statements. I'm always intrigued when I see those figures.

The difference between established lines and a new, largely unproven line. I don't count the DVD and novelization, because we're still talkin' the movie, not something based on the movie.
IDW's movie-based comics (Countdown, Nero, Spock: Reflections) are outselling their non-movie comics, and by a rather nice margin.

But please, don't let my facts get in the way of your fantasy.

Just means that whoever pulled the plug at Pocket didn't have any influence with IDW. It's also a easier to get feedback on a comic book.

Meanwhile, Big Lots has a full assortment of Trek09 figures, starting at $2.50.

I'm not saying the decision to shelve these books is correct, or completely rational, but if you've got a nervous Trek09 licensee, the anecdotal evidence is out there that you might have a dud on your hands and it might be prudent to cut your losses and hunker down on that front.

Balderdash! IDW have to obey the rules like any other licensee. But they haven't done any post-movie stuff. Only 24th century prequel and 23rd century simultaneous. And now adapting the first film.

Actual evidence - extremely low viewer numbers - didn't stop VOY and ENT novels selling extremely well.

That could be due to any of two reasons. One that readers are a lot more popular now then back when SCE was originally written and two the eBook of the compilations is actually cheaper then the eBooks seperately.

Oh, not totally useless. My story is quite absorbent...

Not that the stories are useless. But the time slots are now a waste.

And I do think that if CoE was to continue that it would sell more given how popular stand-alone readers have become such as the Sony Readers, Amazon Kindle, B&N nook, & other brands.

If that were the case, they would have cancelled these books long before they shelled out thousands of dollars to have authors write them.

They've made the investment, and they made that investment long after there was enough data to know how well ST09 toys -- toys! -- were selling. If the postponement were a matter of finance, they wouldn't have made the investment in the first place.

We're talking marketing goons. Since when has logic been a consideration?
Whyever do you think "marketing goons" were involved in the decision to postpone the novels?

Actually that's the first sensible thing he's said in this thread- somewhere there most likely is a marketing chimp who's thought of some bizarre reason to do this. I've lost count of the number of times I've heard editors and publishers say "well *we* want to do *this* but marketing won't have it..."

I love this; you're so fun to watch.

You have now successfully argued yourself in a circle. You have now stated that cancelling the books is illogical, in order to justify your assumption that it had to be because people were scared of it not selling well.

Which means... you think they'd sell well!

Can't have it both ways, dude.

Yeah, but if the marketing goons will greenlight ongoing post-series original fiction one-offs and sagas for both VOY and ENT (which were seen by a tiny proportion of the audiences who watched TOS, TNG and all eleven ST films), they would not stomp on JJ fiction for fear that no one would buy them.

Someone on high simply doesn't want JJ's ST universe being told by anyone else than JJ's team, for now.
