The Writers Tale: The Final Chapter

I managed to pick the new edition of this up yesterday and I must admit, it's BRILLIANT, the candidness and open mindedness so far exhibited by Russell is exceptionally refreshing.

So I was wondering, has anyone else read it, what do they think of it and how different from the original version is it?

I've read the original, and I have The Final Chapter but not read it yet. It looks like the original version ends about half way in to the book.

Does it have the illustrations from the original?

I have the original hardcover (which I devoured in about 2 days) and have the paperback on order through Amazon. For some reason, though, it's not available here in Canada until the 21st.

Skimming through it it seems to. Still has the foreword and the two introductions too. As well as new photos.

Good to know. Aside from his other skills RTD is also a heck of a cartoonist. His interpretation of what the Doctor's Daughter should look like was a hoot.

I'm planning on either ordering this or picking it up if my local Chapters branch has any copies in but they are notoriously bad at getting overseas books in near their publishing date. I'm guessing I'm going to have to wait a couple of months.

It's something I plan to get eventually so I'll probably pick it up in the next month or two.

Anyone know if this will be available in Oz or do I need to buy from OS somewhere? Really want a copy of this, glad I didn't get it until the Final Chapter was added.

Mine is STILL en route from The Book Depository (and has been for about a week).

Getting impatient....:scream:

I haven't heard. Was the first edition ever released there? And do BBC Books releases (other than the novels) turn up in stores there? If yes to either the odds are pretty good the new book will show up. If you've never, or rarely, seen a non-fiction Who book from BBC Books at retail, then it'll probably be something you'll need to order. (And of course availability of other non-fiction BBC Doctor Who books isn't a guarantee - I'm ordering my copy because no one is apparently bringing this book in).

Dunno if it is the same company but I ordered a lot of stuff off TBD through Amazon over many months, and in the beginning found them very good, but recently have been getting slower and slower.

Given it was released last Thursday and most bookshops here didn't get it in their deliveries till Friday, I think you need to learn some patience :p

Now you know what it's like to wait a few days/weeks/months for a book being released here after being released Stateside.

I'm now on Book Two and some of Rusty and Benjaminos comments have had me in stitches, it's an unbelievably honest and informative delve into RTD's thought processes and I think some people on here (naming no names) should read it and thus actually understand why he does what he does.

Yeah, I was surprised how open it was considering it had the Doctor Who branding on it. But I love it. Fantastic book with fantastic insight.

Me, too. Had this on order from Play since before Christmas, and it still hasn't arrived, despite being out in the Uk on the 17/1/10, I think.
