Filming models, etc.

Since we're talking about the refit, where is it anyway. Do we know who bought it from Christies? I'm not trying to pry, but we know a lot of the models went to people on this board who are taking care of them. I'd just like to know it's in good hands.

I have no idea, but considering the price for which it was sold, it is probably reasonable to assume that it will not be deliberately placed in front of a moving steam roller. :)

I think it is safe to say that the model is safe... and it isn't as though there aren't tons of images of the refit to work with. For example...It was already one of the most photographed models ever. :wtf:

Well, i have my piece of the old girl:

In terms of the WHOLE model, i have heard a few stories but nothing very hard and fast.

Congradulations! Thats great. Maybe this disscussion will reveal the owner of the 8 foot minature! BTW the lighting looks great!

Thank you!

We got the photons to work, as well.

In the actual screen shot, the "Enterprise" on the neck is lit. Sadly, there's no actual model light for that one, it was lit from the outside.

Just curious... This is just a portion of the model? What did they use it for and where?

the 'can-opener' shot in TWOK during the Mutara battle. I think it got reused for a torp firing in SFS and another at the end of TUC.

It looks like you have one of the Phase II Enterprise models in your avatar... is that yours?

The only one I had heard of changing hands was the one sold on ebay back in March of '08... but the one in your avatar looks a lot better than that one did (at least back then).

Yes and yes, thanks for the notice.

That's the "can opener" model, used in WOK a few times - SFS in the Klingon confrontation - and fixed up for TUC to fire the shot that hit Chang. The WOK damage was under the fix up and we elected NOT to restore it.

The avatar is indeed the Phase 2 ship updated by the FXCompany in Florida (who did the models of the new ship in the 2009 version, by the way, great company) to be a TMP version. The Phase 2 ship is visible at a few Planet Hollywoods. Its a beaut and is in the Drydock.

Back to the original Refit / Enterprise-A: there are some rumors, not a lot of facts. But the best rumor (which i won't spread, it is just a rumor) would indicate its not Paul Allen. Just 'sayin'.

I wish that they all could have ended up where everyone could enjoy them, in a museum! BTW the refit Enterprise model is so spectacular to see in person. I have seen it 3 or 4 times including at Christies, and everytime it just takes my breath away. It is by far the best looking version of the Enterprise in all of Trek!

I wonder if its possible to restore the TMP Enterprise to its former glory.

^^ I wonder if Paul would be willing to paint it again, from what I've read on his website it must have been a big heck of a job.. :vulcan:

^ If I were the lucky owner of TMP Enterprise, I would not touch it! That would destroy its historical signifigance! Some of TMP paint job is still there because ILM just dulled down the pearlescence of the paint job and changed the strongback but some of the original paint is still there!

1, if I had been the lucky soul to have purchased it i would definately leave it "as is". still, that doesnt mean i wouldnt devote considerable resources to making an exact duplicate (or 2) and attempting to replicate the original and the -A configurations!

2, as i've said before, if i knew who owned it now.. believe me, i'd be all over that sucker with laser-scanners, calipers, and tracing paper... :guffaw::devil::evil::drool:

Sure. Glad to. More at ncc1701.us

Wow... thank you very much for posting those! I have always wanted to get a good look at that station, since I saw the episode... very cool! :) Again, thanks.

I am also wondering what happened to the BIG Enterprise refit model that hung over the entrance to Star Trek The Experience in Las Vegas? I know that the Hilton or someone was going to destroy the model because it stuck out into the casino. Some folks rescued it before that happened and there was actually a nice YouTube video on those people taking her apart. Where is it now and the other models from the Experience for that matter?

There's another operator that is trying to restore the experience, but i can't specifically state the location or condition of the models.
