Modern Warfare2 General Thread

I just finished and I have to say, what a huge disappointment. I suspect the things that so many people love about this game are why I dislike it so much; MW2 has completely and totally embraced multiplayer-esque game play.

Missions have been reduced to a fast-paced, chaotic mess. What the hell is going on? Where am I going? Who the f@&# is shooting me?

Even the sniping levels have been juiced up. The Chernobyl level in MW1 was a masterpiece. The idea of slowing down for even one second doesn't exist in MW2. You end up sniping guys out in the open at practically spitting distance.

The levels are beautiful at least. It would have been nice if I could have taken some time to take them in rather than frantically running-and-gunning my way through them. It doesn't help the game is constantly yelling at you to keep moving either (and god help you if you happen to miss an order).

I think I found a new favorite gun: the AUG HBAR. While before I was kind of a mediocre player, I've turned into a semi-beast with this thing. I started using it last night, and I've been getting way more kills than I used to. I don't know if it's because it's fully automatic or if my play style is different with an LMG, but my K/D ratio in the last couple days has been so much better. I never used to score double-digit kills regularly until I started using the AUG. And once I got the grip for it, its accuracy got better, which helped even more.

They brought this map back into MW2. It's very fun to play in co-op because it plays out exactly like the single player map from the first game (without any of the frustration).

It's kind of neat to be in a field and to tell your partner to watch for a muzzle flash as you dart across to try to draw fire.

I think my new favorite map is Derail. Last two times I've played: 22-4 and 16-2. I found a sweet spot on the map that the enemy team never seems to bother trying to cover. Me and my friend Barrett have enjoyed making them pay for their lack of vigilance.

I went prestige and found a way to live at low level. UMP silencer/red dot with stopping power, marathon and steady aim. I play HC TDM so even stray bullets get kills for me and the UMP means I can fire first more often than not. It really paid off. I grabbed 11 levels Friday night and 7 levels Saturday. Now I'm at 25 and have cold-blooded, but not on this set-up. As long as I knock down harriers all is right with the world.

I haven't played the game in a while due to ST-O and soon Mass Effet 2 is out so by time I come back I will probably suck online

New patch just released for MW2. It is already out for PC, not sure about PS3 or 360. It includes...

Care Package, Emergency Airdrop, and Sentry Gun marker grenades sprint speed normalized.

Sentry Guns: Improved placement detection, preventing cases of Sentry Guns inside geometry.

Model 1887: Bling using Akimbo and FMJ combination now has same range and damage as non-Bling Model 1887s.

Improved player collision removing cases of getting into geometry and 'elevators'.

Fixes to prevent various texture and XP hacks

As always a few things seemed to get missed. The broken Pave-Low kill-streaks are not addressed. Nor are the akimbo G18s or Danger Close getting nerfed(yet).

Does Danger Close really need a nerf? Or Akimbo G18 for that matter? Neither have been a huge problem for me. Honestly I'd prefer they just got rid of Akimbo altogether, but I don't think that will happen.

My TARd class has been a lot of fun lately, that's Tar+tube, thumper, scavenger, danger close, last stand (keep meaning to swap that out for something else). I'm starting to pick up the art of hitting people with grenade launchers, and I just unlocked Danger Close Pro. Maybe I should switch to Stealth Bomber and AC-130.

The Pave Low kill streak thing is puzzling, why don't they fix it? It's just so obviously a bug since it counts in some cases and not in others... and no, I don't mean care package version vs normal version. Just really mind boggling if a fix didn't make it into another patch!

Can't say I'd disagree with you on that. If for no other reason than to get rid of that goofy Akimbo animation when people are running around with two guns.

Of course I gladly trade keeping the Akimbo for getting rid of the noob tubes. But neither one will happen of course.

Both Danger Close and akimbo G18s are debatable. Danger Close with One Man Army in the right hands can be somewhat overpowered on certain maps and game types. Akimbo G18s suffer no accuracy penalty when used Akimbo, unlike every other weapon which does suffer an accuracy penalty.

Neither one of the above is particularly common on Xbox Live yet, but both are becoming more popular.

The biggest thing on my wishlist for MW2 right now is making it so that if you lose an objective based game type you get no points. Nada, zero, zilch. It would hopefully make people actually play to win, instead of padding out their K/D ratio by camping and not even caring about the objectives.

It won't happen, but it is okay to dream.

"And the number one reason I don't play many objective games is...!" ;)

G18=the Glock machine pistol, right? I'll have to load up...;)

ed.(22 hours or so later)- F*** the Glock! I could throw rocks and have more of an effect! I'm going back to my PP2000!

I've been playing this since a little after Christmas. I like it. The campaign was pretty fun, but it was way too short. Finished it in less than 6 hours. I've been playing MP a lot and I'm really enjoying that. My KD ratio has generally not been good, but I often have a lot of kills to go with my many deaths, and am frequently in contention, which is shocking.

Favorite setup is my FAMAS (started the game with it and have refused to switch. ). Bling it with an ACOG and extended magazines, and have perks of stopping power and improved accuracy and I'm a killer with it. I've unlocked all the attachments for it and am finishing up my headshots and total kills with it. I will admit that noob-tubers annoy me as well, but I also realize that it's a valid part of the game. So, I just roll over, die, and shoot them in the back next time. ;) I also get annoyed with the campers, but I take particular joy in hunting them. I've learned most of the normal camping spots/ claymore points and I check every single spot on my rounds around the map. If I get hit by a camper, then his hidey-hole is my first stop upon respawn.

Wow, I just had my best night yet. Not a single match where I wasn't at least a little positive in KDR. Multiple matches with at least twenty more kills than deaths, including a 22-2, a 24-2, a 26-4, and a 33-6!

I also just missed a nuke by two kills! Two gorram kills! I'll probably never get that close again.

The more I play this game, the more I'm convinced there's an issue with the maps not always synchronizing up properly. And I don't think it's just lag, it's more than that. I got killed the other night and I watched the kill cam to see where I got it from. And I thought "oh BS" and went back to where I got killed to have another look. And from my perspective, it simply was not physically possible for the shooter to have seen me, yet from his perspective he could. So his map, and my map, were not matching up at all.

Really annoying, but I guess I have work on the assumption that I've probably been on the good side of that situation from time to time.

thats a HUGE problem on terminal, if you sit at the back of the airplane, a guy can walk up and put his back to the ladder and see you, but you cannot see him

Another thing I'm noticing is an issue what appears to me to be a problem with the scale on the radar. It seems terribly inconsistent from map to map. I probably notice it more because I'm too damned dependent upon the radar.

And then there's the "Cloaking Device" perk. More than once I've gotten killed from out of nowhere and the kill cam shows a player who was clearly right in front of me but was simply not present on my screen.

I hear ya on that one. The "Commando" perk needs to be shoved up somebody's ass as far as I'm concerned. (Along with a half dozen noob tube rounds for good measure.)
