All these awards are amazing!

It's amazing how many folks that post daily on a Star Trek messageboard don't seem to like Star Trek.

I haven't seen Avatar yet, so can't judge it. But damn, I am a little miffed. This was meant to be Trek's comeback year!

What are you talking about ?
Don't confuse a handful of people who are still talking shit with every little chance they get as some kind of majority.

The grading threads, the reviews, the money, the award nominations & wins, the dvd/blu ray sales, the sequel, all speak the truth about Star Trek and how it is viewed by most Trek & non Trek fans on this board and elsewhere.

^Yeah, the haters seem to be in the minority. They just seem a lot bigger than they are because they're a lot LOUDER.

And because many , after months of dead end discussions on the same subjects, no longer care to address them in most cases since it's pointless.

During Enterprise's run, there was one person who said he hated everything about the show, yet most of his posts were about Enterprise and he'd watch every single episode just to tell us how right he was!

There are probably more haters than gushers (the only gusher I can recall offhand was a Voyager gusher and I don't even think he posts here anymore), but the haters only seem large in number because they post the same things over and over again. And they like to keep moving the goalposts back whenever their doomsday cries don't come true.

The majority are more centered than that. I don't think many people here think Star Trek would/will win many of these award nominations, but Trek merely getting nominated for stuff is a good sign.

If not for Avatar, the new Trek would have been hailed the best sci fi film of last year.

Meaningless, since Avatar exists and is better.

Anyway, the Trek haters don't matter. Despite their dire predictions Star Trek was a hit, is a hit and now defines the Franchise for the foreseeable future. They can complain as much as they want, but may as well be bitching about the weather. ;)

Well, we do agree that Avatar is better, don't we?

Star Trek is better than Avatar. Better story and acting

Avatar is winning awards due to the money its made and the liberal message

I'm so thankful for James Cameron basically beating the crap out of overhyped Star Trek with Avatar. The visual effects blow it out of the water, and Zoe Saldana could unfold her full potential, while in Star Trek, her character was awfully one dimensional. Action cinematography was clear, no shaky cam, no fucking annoying lens flares blinding you to hide from the fact that visual effects and live action integration was not as good as it could have been, or blinding you every time there's an editing glitch. Set design and creature design were superior, and the script, while being a version of the good old Pocahontas story (Star Trek was a version of the Star Wars story), was perfectly thought out with no plot holes or continuity gaps anywhere in sight.

Avatar is a over-rated liberal propaganda film

Star Trek has prided itself on being able to address issues under the guise of science fiction, so what's wrong with Avatar doing the same thing.

Wrong forum.

If you want to talk about politics, there are forums appropriate to such topics. If you want to talk about a supposed political message in Avatar, there are forums for that, but this forum isn't one of them. Warmaster, please desist, and Jarod, please refrain from responding if he (or anyone else) does try to divert the thread into politics. Canon, continuity and "the spirit of Trek" present plenty of opportunities for disagreement, as it is, without bringing movies from outside the franchise or politics into it.

I would be thrilled if Star Trek walked away with an Oscar. Any Oscar.
