Hypothetical situation ...

According to my old FASA book, Chapel was 2 years older than Sulu and Uhura 2 years younger than Sulu but it can't be considered canon. I saw a script for Miri where Rand claimed to be 24 years old, making her 3 years older than Chekov and 9 years younger than Kirk who were cited as 22 and 34 the following year. The line never made it into canon and FASA had her listed as age 26.

Kirk - Ben Browder isn't a bad choice if he could reign it in a bit
Spock - ?
McCoy - ?
Scott - Paul McGillion
Sulu - ?
Uhura - Lanei Chapman?
Chekov - Andy Bray - I've been very impressed with his Phase II portrayal!
Chapel - Tricia Helfer
Rand - Ali Larter

Selling a show with a cast of actors pushing or past 40 might be a hard sell. ( at least we know the CW will pass. ;) )
Eh, the average age of the cast of DS9, not counting Cirroc Lofton (15), when the show started, was 39.4.

Avery Brooks - 45
Nana Visitor - 36
Rene Auberjonois - 53
Colm Meaney - 40
Armin Shimerman - 44
Terry Farrell - 30
Siddig El Fadil - 28

If you add the recurring characters: you do have Aron Eisenberg (24 and playing younger) and Max Grodenchick (27 and obviously playing older), Rosalind Chao is in between at 36, but that offset by Marc Alaimo (51), Andrew Robinson (51), and Louise Fletcher (59). Michael Dorn was pushing 43 when joined the cast in season 4, and as for recurring characters, there were: Salome Jens (59 in season 3), Jeffrey Combs (40 in season 2 when he guest starred, 41 when he first appeared as Brunt), J. G. Hertzler (46 in season 4 when he first appeared as Martok), Casey Biggs (40/41 in season 4), and the average number is kept down only by Penny Johnson (34 in season 3), Chase Masterson (32 in season 3), the actresses playing Ziyal (though the last one, who played her in most of the episodes, was 35), and finally Nicole De Boer in season 7 (28).

Rand's age is based on her birthdate which was apparently established in VGR: "Flashback" (probably on a personnel-file graphic or something like that).

Coool. I never keep a lookout for that stuff. Looks like they stuck with roughly her real age at the time she originally played Rand. I'm happy with that! I'll go and changer her character sheet. I was sad enough to save about 150 character portraits from the Rec Deck scene for use with character sheets in the Thousand Suns rpg...

Its not 1993 anymore.

And I was making a joke.

What has changed?
The Networks like shows with pretty, young people. Look at the cast of Lost. At the start the cast for the most part was under 40. .
Actually the majority of the male cast were pushing 40 or over 40 (or over 50). But all of the female cast are still under 40, except for a couple of supporting characters. Hmm... :shifty:
I'm sticking with most being under 40. I'll even spot you Fox and Kim;)
In 2005:
Naveen Andrews- 36
Mathew Fox-39
Jorge Garcia-32
Josh Holloway-36
Malcolm David Kelley-13
Daniel Dae Kim-37
Dominic Monaghan-29
Terry O'Quinn-52
Harold Perrineau-42
Ian Joseph Somerhalder-27

Kirk - Gary Sinese
Spock - Samuel Jackson
McCoy - Sam Neil
Uhura - CC Pounder
Sulu - Ken Watanabe
Chekov - Thomas Jane

I LOVE CCH Pounder soooo much. As Uhura - no - but for a role as an admiral in the Trek sequel - hell yes!

Yep - she is great, but she is completely wrong for Uhura.

And wouldn't Gary Sinise be a better choice for McCoy than for Kirk?

^Absolutely. Sinise's striking resemblance to DeForest Kelley has been noted many times, and he was a fan favorite for McCoy in the movie before Karl Urban was cast (though of course he would've been too old for the timeframe of the film).

Depending on how you would go about this "original original" revival, I think it would be a challenge to find the right "elders" to portray supporting cast, like Admiral Komack. There's a Cold War archetype that would be interesting to cast for...

I like Gary Sinese as an astronaut and as President Truman and Captain Dan and Mac on CSI:NY. He even does bad- remember Reinder Games? So I may be biased but I think he is more than up to the captain's chair. I think he'd bring a gravitas Shatner lacked when he was younger.

I'm sure he'd be a great captain. I just think he's a wrong choic for this particular captain, captain James T. Kirk.

Kirk - ?
Spock - ?
McCoy - Gary Sinise
Scott - Craig Ferguson
Sulu - ?
Uhura - ?
Chekov - ?
Chapel - ?
Rand - ?
Navigator - Terri Hatcher, assuming Chekov is still the Weapons Officer.

Yes, I know, it is highly unlikely Terri Hatcher would sign up for this, but this is a fantasy casting. Yes, I know Terri Hatcher was in an episode of TNG ("The Outrageous Okona") briefly, back in 1988, playing a transporter operator.
