Hrm, it looks like they're going to offer the lifetime sub after the game launches - but at 300 bucks and no bonuses.

I don't know. My opinion of the game still stands. It feels more like a RTS (like Knights of the Old Republic) than an MMO. It's a little clunky as well.

Sorry. I've already joined another fleet. A TrekBBS fleet is a good idea though. :D

So 3 days after EB called me and asked me to pick up a beta code, I have now canceled my pre-order. It was a a frustrating decision. I recognize that the little glitches and bugs will be fixed slowly over the next couple months, but the fact of the mater is.. this is basically a release candidate... heck the game is likely already in-production.

The only thing i liked was the space combat, which is pretty satisfying as a whole. I didn't like how my Miranda could beat a negh'var... but thats small complaint.

Ground missions are by far the worst part of the game. They are very repetative and the structures themselves, are HORRIBLE. They consist basically of a box connected to the other box with an empty corridor. Theres no detail, the textures are ... half life 1 quality. It makes your head hurt how bad they are.

Ultimatly you have have to decide for yourselves, but I feel that this is a terrible MMO. It could have used another year in development... so unpolished.

OK, if a lot of people from TrekBBS play this game I will have to get it.

So basically most of the game is 'click F'.

Also from what they are saying it sounds like you barely even come into contact with other people except perhaps in ships now and again. This may as well have not even been an MMO.

Everything still sounds and looks pretty good to me. I also looked over some video on youtube about the game...hope it lives up to it and I think I did see a knock-off Steamrunner...it's cool you can customize everything from your character to your ship.

Personally, I wish it wasn't. I'd be more more interested if it were a straight forward RPG with a compelling story and characters.

Server busy all time so can't play, it seems everything to do with bad P.R, Cryptic have gone out of their way to achieve. Some of the people on the STO forums are downright snobs saying how the ebta shouldn't be for new mmo players and they don't have thr right to judge the game because its a beta despite being 2 weeks away from launch.

I also have to admit that finding out like CO, Cryptic has one server location to play off unlike you get with WOW where you can choose the best one for you is a BIG BIG worry for me especially with the server busy.

Maybe there will be more servers in the future...I don't see STO having 11 Million players right out the gate.

I keep hearing people say horrible things about the game here and on other forums...that seems a bit strange to me.

The game has potential and space combat is fun but they are too many issues to ignore and on the STO forums am sick of the excuse its only a beta. The game will launch in 2 weeks in many ways the same condition to be imrpoved upon in coming months but the game should be delayed until Q2 so April/May/June.

The game doesn't explain much and I feel lost at times, theres so much to know about how things work, where you buy things from etc etc but theres little info, to a non MMO player like me I feel shut out and forgotten.

The game needs to address serious bugs, and same boring missions...There should combat where the aim is to hold off for a while or to fight off and make your opponents run away and not just beat every ship they throw at you. Klingons should attack randomly by de cloaking not just load on the map I want to see ships unlock etc. I want to explore new worlds and strange phenomenon not just fight fight fight. I want multui choice in convos so I can defuse a situation I want this to feel like STAR TREK and not WOW.

though most of all I want to actually get on a server.

At the moment I plan to buy the game in the summer at somepoint after they had time to work on it and if I like what I see in the 1st month then I will probably buy 3 months outright at just over £25. There is potential but Cryptic are making mistake after mistake and tbh have never been a big enough company to go hand in hand with the ST name HOWEVER the rush release smacks of ATARI interfering and I wish that dam company would go bust because they NEVER EVER learn from there mistakes.

It doesn't matter what version of the game gets pressed to disk and shipped to stores. As soon as the player installs the game and logs on the first time, the game will update with the latest patches and will be up to date with the latest fixes. And the game will continuously update with patches every time the player logs onto the server and there are updates available.

While at first I was pissed that this game wasn't engineered like the GTA series or Burnout Paradise where it was a single player experience with multiplayer options with a strong bent on RPG and if there were any updates or expansions you only had to pay for them if you wanted them after the initial purchase of the game. But after thinking about it and how complex the StarTrek universe is and how expansive Cryptic could ultimately make it, their approach ultimately does make the most sense.

My only regret is I don't have the money on hand for the lifetime subscription to show Cryptic my support for their continued long-term development of this project.

This game is fun and I don't understand the overboard criticism at this point. If you haven't played MMO before well yeah, it's a mmo. I haven't even seen pvp yet, I'm not sure they've added klingons to try on open beta yet, but I don't see how you can complain about cloaks until then. The klingon ships you are fighting probably don't have cloaks.

As far as the complicated part, again it's an mmo that's been in open beta for less than a week. It's a good thing you haven't figured out everything yet.

Everything to me seems promising. I'm looking forward to working in more group oriented missions similar to Public Quests in Warhammer. That has awesome potential. And I want to see how PvP works and how the Klingon faction will run.

No one can comment on end game or class balance yet because no one can be high enough level to see it.

And yes, it is still Beta!!! And it's been less than a week. A lot of what they are doing is on purpose to test game mechanics. If this was the release I could understand the criticism but seems like a lot of whining to me.

The game is fun, has potential, and I think it's silly to wait months until after release to try it? Why would you do that? So everyone has leveled out of the noob area and has major advantages to game mechanics?

If you are planning to get the game, you should just get it and try it for the first month. If you think it sucks at that point then quit. If you hate the gameplay now I understand, but it's far exceeded my expectations, although I admit they were low going in.

In the open beta now. So far it doesn't really feel like an MMO. Granted, the only other one I've played was WoW, so I don't have a lot of experience on that matter.

So far though, I like it. It's a lot of fun, although the hot pink uniforms kind of stab at my eyes whenever I see one.

Would be nice to get to beam down to earth, even if its just a small area of Starfleet HQ. Anyone know if that might happen later?

Haven't personally come accross to many bugs people keep talking about, but have seen a couple of funny ones. Giant tribbles for example, visiting the bridge as... the ship (Seriously, can someone explain the violations of the laws of physics in that one?). My crew also likes to beam me into space, or make me go on solo missions. But thats about it.

Edit: Alex, Klingons are available at lvl 6, and yes they do have cloaks.
There's also a couple of typos, but I think i've seen some of those in WoW too so I'm not too worried about that.

No, you can't. Only your bridge. But from what I see people saying, they'll be adding access to defferent area's of the ship.

Playing it with a friend until we got logged out for some reason and enjoyed it lots. I will get it at some point maybe for my birthday in May instead of summer it all depends on reviews and what I hear between now and then. At least if Birthday gift am not wasting £25 on disc if I don't like it for long.
